Pay Summary - Seasonal Salary Exempt $1200 a week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

New York Film Academy LA 2022 Teen Summer Camp is looking for an organized, outgoing, and reliable Teen Residential & Activity Director for a live in full time seasonal position. The Residential & Activity Director leads social outings on weekends and group events and or dinners on weeknights and evenings. The Residential Director is also responsible for making sure all campers are checked in for the night and on time for the shuttle to campus every morning. They spearhead hiring, training, and supervising of the Residential Advisors (RAs) who also live in, assist and oversee our Teen overnight campers during their intensive summer program at The New York Film Academy. The RAs are role model figures for our energetic, artistic student body, and must commit to helping maintain an educational, safe, and socially cohesive environment for the campers to learn and play in. It is the Residential & Activity Directors responsibility to ensure all RAs understand their role and to intervene and provide feedback when they [RAs] are not fulfilling their job responsibilities in a satisfactory manner. This position also assists in the organization of transportation of campers to and from campus.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

  • Facilitate and oversee all aspects of the hiring process for Residential Advisors (RAs)
  • Develop an onboarding process for newly hired RAs, such as training, orientation, uniform distribution, etc.
  • Establish safe and effective safety and social guidelines and protocols
  • Book and oversee evening and weekend activities that bond campers and provide mental social breaks from classroom instruction
  • Maintain budget for social activities which might mean sourcing inexpensive or free activities (hikes, beach day, etc)
  • Oversee execution of guidelines and protocols to ensure safe housing and social environment
  • If necessary assist students on mediation of any interpersonal disagreements or concerns
  • Communicate any personal or behavioral camper concerns to the Director of Youth Programs
  • Coordinate with the Equipment and TA Manager camper scheduling transportation needs
  • Create & maintain effective channels of communication with Director and Equipment Manager
  • Schedule and assign RAs responsibilities in accordance with student/camper needs
  • Coordinate with the Director of Youth Camps to determine additional RA scheduling needs outside the classroom, such as registration, orientation, graduation, etc.
  • Maintain various logistics necessary to ensure the smooth running of production, including airport pick-ups, graduation screenings, transpo to and from campus, etc.
  • Assist with build out, classroom set-up before program and breakdown after the program
  • Approve and review RA staff payroll biweekly
  • Maintain oncall availability throughout the duration of the camps, including weekends

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • A strong commitment to and enthusiasm for engaging with youth filmmakers and mentoring their artistic ambitions and talents.
  • Ability to work hard, respond to emergencies, and always prioritize the safety and personal well being of the campers
  • Strong event management skills and or production coordination experience
  • Strong mediation, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • A basic understanding of all summer camp programs
  • Experience within Production and or performance strongly preferred

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Prior experience working at NYFA strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a fast-paced multi-tasking results driven environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites and GSuite.

REPRESENTATIVE MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND/OR SOFTWARE USED:

The following machines, tools, equipment and / or software are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. Actual machines, tools, equipment and/ or software used will vary.

  • Google Docs, Excel, Word, FileMaker Pro
  • Office equipment including, but not limited to computer, phone, fax machine copier & calculator.
  • Film equipment, including, but not limited to 5D Mark II, HMC 150, shotgun mics, tripods, onboard shock mounts, c-stands, boom poles, etc.

ENVIRONMENTAL / ATMOSPHERIC WORKING CONDITIONS:

The following environmental / atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, associated with the performance of this position. The actual working conditions will vary.

  • Office Environment, Outdoor/Indoor Film Set environment
  • Theme parks, social outings, and organized group activities
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull documents/boxes weighing up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to climb a ladder, standing, bending and stooping
  • Sit for long/high periods of time to perform various computer/administrative tasks
  • Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment
  • Verbally and effectively communicate utilizing face-to-face contact and telephones.
