Position Summary

The University of Denver's Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is seeking a Director of Workforce Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). The Director for Workforce DEI will have wide ranging responsibilities related to supporting the work of DEI across campus, with a particular lens on creating and sustaining recruitment pipelines, search committee support, and retention efforts toward building a diverse workforce at DU. This individual will be supervised by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for DEI Partnerships and Operations with collaborative efforts alongside the Assistant Vice Chancellor for DEI Academic Engagement. Also, the leader in this role will be expected to be the main resource for the Vice Chancellor in leading and coordinating DEI's efforts in fostering ever increasingly thoughtful and proactive engagement in weaving DEI into structures and practices in the institution's recruitment, support, and retention of the entire university workforce. The Director will serve collaboratively with university partners including Human Resources (HR) and Equal Opportunity and Title IX (EOIX) but will be housed in the Division of DEI. The Director of Workforce DEI should embody both strong alignment with the University's diversity, equity and inclusion vision and goals and a commitment to efficient and collaborative work.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the Division of DEI's representative when issues, concerns, and opportunities arise on both the staff and faculty side of recruiting the university's workforce working in coordination with both DEI division Assistant Vice Chancellors.
  • Serve as a university leader for the establishment of a talent acquisition model with a specific lens on DEI. This will include assisting leaders across campus in the development of recruitment processes (e.g., crafting of job descriptions, creating talent pipelines, and designing departments' goals regarding the building out of a diverse workforce) and practices (e.g., development and training of search committees, etc.) that aim to build out a dynamic and diverse workforce.
  • Develop recruiting strategies and objectives to attract talented individuals from a wide variety of intersecting identities and perspectives. Continually improve & evaluate current and potential diversity recruitment practices, ideas, opportunities, and affinity partnerships to increase the ability to source diverse pools of candidates.
  • Initiate and determine an engagement strategy for relationships with internal and external constituents that may help diversify our talent pools.
  • Develop tactics to retain and develop employees from identities previously underrepresented at DU alongside the AVC for DEI Partnerships and Operations and the AVC for DEI Academic Engagement in alignment strategic leadership from the Vice Chancellor of DEI.
  • Serve as a partner in planning and preparing for future searches with units across campus through consultation with hiring managers, search committees, etc.
  • Partner with the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX (EOIX) on the affirmative action plan (AAP) to enhance diversity recruiting plans and provide insight and collaborative efforts regarding data and resulting unit-based consultation.
  • Coordinate with partners in Talent Acquisition in HR, EOIX, and Academic Affairs as needed.
  • Contribute to designing a DEI strategic plan for recruitment, hiring, and retention (support), within the work of a larger DEI strategic plan. This process will be a precursor to larger university-wide strategic planning and will help shape its outcome alongside partners in HR and EOIX.
  • Partner with the AVC for DEI Partnerships and Operations in understanding, supporting, drafting, and supporting expansive efforts within conceptualizing DEI data within the larger university framework.

  • Ability to establish diversity candidate pipelines through innovative recruiting and sourcing techniques.
  • Knowledge of recruiting/sourcing techniques and tools.
  • Display a complex understanding of DEI in modern-day higher education context.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to have cultural competence and behaviors in all interactions.
Required Qualifications
  • • Master's Degree
  • Previous DEI Leadership Experience
  • Three to five (3-5) years of recent work experience in leading diversity sourcing projects and/or recruiting initiatives.
  • One to two (1-2) years of full cycle recruiting work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher Education Leadership experience preferred
  • Depth of experience in workforce matters including recruitment, retention, and professional development
  • Experience in the life cycle of recruitment, including writing job descriptions, marketing strategy, and pool management.
  • Desire and ability to network outside of DU on a regular basis.
  • Bi-/multilingual
Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
2. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. In accordance with University policy, majority of the work will occur on-campus though partial remote/hybrid work is available and must be approved by the supervisor.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 11.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
