Position Overview

With over fifty years of innovation in market and consumer measurement, NPD is a world leader in retail sales reporting and analysis. More than 2,000 clients rely on NPD products to drive business decisions in over 20 industries and 19 countries around the globe.

In this role, you will work closely with our Retail Business Group to understand the needs of our retail partners, develop roadmaps, and lead development of information and analysis products that help retailers navigate issues in critical areas such as assortment, pricing, promotion, and supply chain planning. Additionally, this role will develop and manage selected products for our manufacturing clients that span multiple industry categories.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience and training in product management and retail merchandising. You should be familiar with using customer-driven methods for developing product roadmaps, have good experience writing user stories and managing agile methodologies for leading development teams, as well as a background in developing data visualization and data interfaces. The candidate should also be passionate about market research, data and insights. Familiarity with both consumer data/market research and retail merchandising is a must.

Responsibilities:

Product Strategy and Revenue Growth :

  • Create, execute, and evangelize the vision for multiple products for our retail audience
  • Drive portfolio pipeline planning throughout the product lifecycle(s)
  • Develop cost/benefit analyses for new products and product enhancements and upgrades
  • Support retirement of under-performing products


Product Discovery and Roadmap Management:
  • Act as primary point of contact for new product ideas emerging from the Retail Business Group and for evaluating ideas and managing POC/prototyping phases
  • Engage with clients and conduct discovery sessions related to product road mapping, new products, enhancements, upsells, and data changes
  • Develop product roadmaps and ensure execution of fundamental concepts including product/market fit, product tests, client discovery process, and long-term product health
  • Oversee product requirements and enhancements


Product Development:
  • Create and prioritize product requirements and user stories, translating needs across clients into specs for product capability
  • Work closely with the Retail Business Group, other industry and platform product teams, and implementation teams to bring the specs alive into a product, negotiating between scope,
  • timeline, and budget
  • Manage the rollout of product upgrades, enhancements, and escalated customer support issues


Product Marketing:
  • Determine product valuation strategies and rate cards in partnership with the retail and FP&A teams
  • Work with marketing to develop customer-facing materials supporting retail products
  • Demonstrate products as necessary to retailers and commercial teams


Qualifications:
  • 5+ years formal product management experience
  • 3+ years' experience managing products for retailers - either in a national retail organization or software or data company providing products supporting retailer buying, assortment planning, pricing, promotion, or supply chain management
  • Experience and/or training in agile/scrum
  • Experience with cost/benefit analyses and product pricing and packaging
  • Experience with UI and data delivery
  • Direct experience in a company providing data and insights highly desired
  • Undergraduate degree required; graduate certifications in retail and technology product management desired
  • Passionately curious, lifelong learner
  • Global experience is a plus
