ECS is seeking a Distributive Systems Engineer to work in our Silver Spring, MD office.

Job Description:

The candidate will support various new ship design and construction programs. The primary focus of this position will be to support NOAA's ship acquisition team as a subject matter expert in piping and HVAC systems design and as such will provide technical advice to ensure effective development, integration, and operation of all associated systems. The candidate will review and be involved in various shipyard activities and submissions to ensure the contract requirements are met. It will be necessary to write reports on various subjects as appropriate and perform other duties as assigned, which could include participating on the government's inspection team during sea trials. Some travel will be required, principally to vendors, shipyard locations, and various NOAA locations.

Required Skills:

  • US Citizen
  • Public Trust clearance
  • BS in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering
  • 8-15 years' experience/knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in various piping and HVAC systems during every stage of new ship construction.
  • Strong technical and specification review/writing experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detailed oriented and well organized.
  • Ability to perform and evaluate piping and HVAC system calculations.
  • Ability to work independently but maintain strong communication skills with the team.
  • Strong industry experience with a focus on shipbuilding, ships, and engineering systems.
  • Experience should also include requirements analysis, concept design and development, feasibility studies, test and evaluation, and systems integration.
Desired Skills:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Program Management Professional (PMP) certificate.
  • Experience with standard software used during ship construction Navisworks, AutoCAD, Ship Constructor, Pipeflow, all Microsoft products and SharePoint.
  • Experience with cost estimating.
  • Experience with production techniques for steel construction ships.
