About the Department

The Celiac Disease Center at the University of Chicago Medicine is dedicated to advancing innovative research aimed at improving our understanding and ability to treat celiac disease. The team is dedicated to this goal from every angle: research, clinical, education and community. Our community extends far beyond the neighborhoods immediately surrounding the University of Chicago Medicine. The Celiac Disease team has developed a series of community initiatives to bring our experts and knowledge to those who need it most. This includes the Pediatric Family Network, the recently established InTransit Teen Advisory Program, our bi-annual Continuing Medical Education Conferences (CME), and many other programs.

Job Summary

The job performs routine assignments related to academic, research, clinical or administrative programs. This position will report to the Celiac Disease Center Director and assist in creating novel approaches to educational programming to foster awareness of celiac disease and gluten-related disorders and assist in the execution of these initiatives. Self-starter characteristics, willingness to learn in-depth about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet, and the ability to navigate efficiently in a dynamicoutpatient subspecialty clinic will be crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in execution and expansion of educational efforts in the Celiac Disease Center including expansion of our InTransit Teen Program including expanding its video series, planning for monthly meetings.
  • Assists in execution of new Mentorship Program we plan to execute this fall pairing patients living with Celiac Disease with newly diagnosed patients.
  • Assists in planning and execution of Professional Education including our CME.
  • Assists in planning and expanding Family Network and Family Education Day programs.
  • Assists in planning for Food Insecurity and School Educational Efforts.
  • Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries.
  • Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.
  • Analyzes program budgets and uses a moderate/high level of authority to recommend or makes budgetary recommendations.
  • Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Experience:

  • Two years of work experience in a non-profit or public health setting.

Preferred Competencies

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, self-direction, flexibility and ability to multi-task.
  • Must possess analytical and assessment, cultural competency and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with multi-disciplinary stakeholders and develop programs using assessment, planning, implementation, management and evaluation framework.
  • Extensive knowledge about celiac disease and the gluten-free diet as well as an understanding of the major advocacy organizations, hospital centers and industry sponsors of the celiac disease and gluten-free diet community.

Working Conditions

  • This position will be eligible for a partial alternative work arrangement pending periodic performance evaluations.
