Job Summary

The EHS/Facilities Leader is responsible for Environmental, Health and Safety and overall Facilities Management of the Nordson ICS Amherst Campus. This role will focus on EHS planning for the Amherst (and Wixom, MI) campus including risk reduction, safety training, compliance for Environmental and Safety regulations. The role will also have responsibility for maintenance and utilities management for the Amherst campus, own the capital and annual budgeting for Facilities and have a focus on cost management.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages environmental compliance programs including waste, storm water, waste water, air, emergency response, Department of Transportation (DOT), Resource conservation & recovery act (RCRA), Emergency Planning & community right to act (EPCRA), etc.
  • Maintains all environmental and safety compliance records.
  • Interfaces with outside technical consultants, regulatory agencies, and corporate compliance.
  • Responsible for all written responses to regulatory agency inspections and corporate audit reports in addition to Agency required reports (Annual Report, Superfund Amendments reauthorization act (SARA) Reports, Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Reports, permits, etc.).
  • Manages and develops safety programs including forklift training, lockout/tagout (LOTO), cranes and hoists, and other relevant programs as needed.
  • Assists HR with Bureau Workers Compensation (BWC) claims, injury reports, and OSHA 300 Logs.
  • Conducts incident investigations and root cause analysis. Proposes solutions, implements programs, and/or provides training as necessary as a result.
  • Serves as Site Emergency Coordinator and manages the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Ensures the safety of our employees by evaluating the security needs of the facility regarding access control, monitoring and threat prevention & response.
  • Work with cross functional orgs regarding facilities upgrades, repairs and campus expansions.
  • Responsible for driving cost savings with respect to contractor quoting and selection process.
  • Develop and maintain departmental facilities budgets (~ $1M annual), and execute capital and cost savings projects.


Education & Experience Requirement:

Education:

Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in industrial hygiene, chemistry, engineering, environmental or related field required.

Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated hands on experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety industry
  • Working experience in industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge/understanding of environmental and related regulations (RCRA, OSHA, EPA, CWA, CAA, etc.) is required.
  • Demonstrated performance in achieving cost reduction targets.

Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at any level.
  • Purchasing and utilities/construction contract negotiating experience.
  • Experience working with construction trades.
  • Experience working within a union environment.
  • Project management skills.
  • Superb analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to analyze data, draw conclusions and recommend actions using sound judgment.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).


Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Office environment. Approximately 10-20% travel to Wixom, MI as required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
