Job Description:

We are recruiting to fill an ESH Specialist position at our Daramic - Owensboro facility. Daramic specializes in the development and manufacture of membrane separators that are critical components in batteries used in the automotive, industrial, and energy storage applications.
This position will help develop and coordinate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This position will report to the ESH Manager and collaborate with site leadership to help meet site EHS objectives.

Scope and Authority

Location: Daramic, LLC - Owensboro, KY

Authority: Authorized to ensure all safety and health programs, procedures, training, work practices, and controls are effectively implemented in order to ensure compliance and conformance to ES&H policies, laws, and regulations.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to: ES&H Manager Owensboro
  • Supervises: None

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and deploy ESH procedures and training programs to reduce risk and maintain compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Work collaboratively to investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Coach all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that build and sustain a Zero Harm culture.
  • Assist in environmental compliance for CERCLA/SARA, air quality (CAA), waste (RCRA), storm water (SWPPP), and wastewater programs (CWA).
  • Monitor, measure and communicate ESH performance and trends to identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Contribute to the development of program budgets and monitor performance against funding plans.
  • Perform, facilitate, or assist with hazard risk assessments and provide feedback and solutions for identified concerns.
  • Sponsor site safety committees and other ESH related project teams.
  • Perform pre-startup safety reviews for new or modified equipment.
  • Organize and maintain relevant ESH records and documentation.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and across functions.
  • Assist with Management System development to assign, track, and verify EHS responsibilities and integrate them into the overall business operation.
  • Maintain awareness of federal, state and local environmental, safety, and health regulations, including potential changes that could affect the operation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in environmental, health and safety, chemistry, engineering, or the physical sciences.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective workplace relationships and motivate others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to connect effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to occasionally flex the work schedule as necessary to oversee project work or engage various work shifts.
  • Intermediate level of skill with standard Microsoft desktop applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook). Experience with SharePoint a plus.
  • All potential candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. Employer sponsorship is not available.
Other Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of EHS experience in a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to occasionally travel (domestic and international) to obtain development training, participate in professional conferences, and support internal EHS audits.
  • Professional environmental or safety certification (CSP, CEP, CHMM, etc.), or willingness to pursue one, from a nationally recognized organization.
  • Technical writing including development of procedures, plans, hazard analyses, and training presentations.
  • Prior experience working in a team environment with proven decision making and problem solving skills.
Physical Qualifications:
  • Working within a general office environment 80% of time.
  • Standing and walking for up to 20% of the time in the manufacturing environment, including areas that require the use of PPE. This requires the ability to climb ladders and walk the plant in its entirety, including platforms at elevated levels.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and/or force necessary to push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
