CALSTART is looking for a highly motivated candidate to join our Zero Emission Bus team for a three-month paid internship. The Zero Emission Bus team helps transit agencies deploy zero emission buses. The Zero Emission Bus team provides analysis of zero-emission infrastructure, oversees technology development and demonstration projects, and accelerates the market development of the clean transportation industry. The team also collaborates with various stakeholders to assess the techno-economic feasibility of zero-emission fleets and analyze the performance of deployed zero-emission technologies.

The intern will be developing the energy consumption models, conducting a techno-economic study of medium and heavy-duty transportation alternatives, and assisting in evaluating the energy consumption of medium and heavy-duty buses and trucks using real-world data, estimating electric vehicle energy, emission-reduction, and cost implications.

Qualifications:

  • Completed a least three years of accredited college/university level coursework pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, data analysis, environmental science, or other related fields
  • Understanding vehicle/technology operating and duty cycle requirements for charging and fueling, geoprocessing tool knowledge (GIS)
  • Experience with clean transportation and data analysis
  • Knowledge of clean transportation with a strong desire to learn more about zero-emission vehicles
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Excel
  • Strong written skills with the ability to synthesize technical analysis
  • Understanding of utility load data analysis, renewable fuels, and energy storage
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently in a remote work environment
  • Minimum commitment of 30-40 hours per week
Desired Skills:
  • Understanding of hydrogen infrastructure and fuel cells technology
  • Strong written skills with the ability to synthesize technical analysis
  • Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders and audiences
  • Experience using Python, R, SQL or ARC-GIS
