Job Description

GPIis seeking Civil/Structural/Highway/Water Resources interns for the Columbia Branch with our Babylon, NY office. Interns will be performing field investigations, analysis, 3D design, drafting, plan development, report writing, contractor submittal review, and construction phase site visits.

Interns will work with experienced project teams toward completing interesting projectsrelated to civil, bridge, highway, and water resource engineering.The preferred candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and have some knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing engineering analysis and design
  • Preparing cohesive and organized engineering calculations
  • Detailing and drafting using 3D CADD Software
  • Assist with geometric layout and quantity development
  • Developing task deliverables for review by a Senior Engineer
  • Performing tasks according to the assigned schedule and budget
  • Working independently under the guidance of a Senior Engineer
  • Participate in field inspections of future project locations and active construction sites
  • Assist with report writing
Qualifications:
  • A student who is pursuing a degree in engineering and has an interest in civil/structural/highway engineering
  • Good communicator, energetic, and the ability to work in the office to obtain the full experience of working alongside our engineering staff
What to expect:
  • Individualized internship program with the opportunity to explore multiple engineering disciplines, including potential opportunities with other local GPI offices and Construction Engineering, Inspection, and Management
  • Each intern will be assigned a mentor and will be involved in various training sessions, field visits, employee engagement activities, and work on a variety of projects.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
