Manager of Engineering - Development Platform

** Location: San Jose, Austin, Portland**


CDK Global is actively seeking a Manager of Engineering for our Development Platforms who can drive the administration for tools our software engineers use to deliver CDK products. As the manager, you will need to collaborate with engineering leaders to collect feedback, drive improvements, research modern tools and engage in the adoption of tools across our engineering team. Experience in leveraging outside sources to determine which tools to assess and provide recommendations for modern technologies is highly desirable. Driving & planning the retirement of older/legacy technologies in alignment with our engineering, cybersecurity and DevOps team is expected as we shift to modern tools.

The Manager of Engineering Development Platforms will join the engineering team in San Jose CA, Austin TX or Portland OR. You will be responsible for helping drive the platform strategy as well as ensure the platform/tools are confirming to our compliance requirements and operational SLAs. Periodic audits, health checks, capacity and performance assessments and operational metrics of these platforms will be key measures for success. Must have the ability to work in modern technologies and create bridges to our legacy environments as needed. Your experience in software development, DevOps, SaaS, Cloud Platforms and Agile practice will help you be successful in the position.

In the position you will lead a team of 8-12 resources globally while working closely with cross-functional organization stakeholders such as software engineering, cybersecurity, information technology and product management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration of our development platform tools - proactively keeping them current, compliant and operationally healthy
  • Define the platform strategy, including research of modern tools, collaborate across functions and influence adoption
  • Drive implementation of the platform strategy, including rollout, communication, migration to modern tools and retiring legacy ones
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of direct reports.
  • Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion
  • Coordinates work activities with other managers/leaders
  • Manages the coordination of activities within own team, often including staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and work process
  • Reviews work of team members upon completion for quality provides coaching and mentoring to team members
  • Identifies technical and operational challenges by analyzing multiple factors and/or leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the functional area. Ensures we have support depth for critical tools
  • Decision making and problem solving are largely guided by policies, procedures and departmental plans
  • Drives engineering excellence and foster innovation
  • Recommends changes to process and policies that affect the immediate team
  • Influence decisions through persuasion to drive consensus
  • Execute ongoing goal setting, performance and development reviews according to the THRIVE process
  • Define and execute detailed technical training plans according to the workforce planning strategy and learning objectives
  • Informs senior management of progress, risks related to key goals and objectives
  • Collaborate across multiple areas and/or with other departments to achieve project objectives

Qualifications & Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with DevOps, utilizing Agile and Scrum software development methodologies
  • Knowledge of cloud, SaaS solutions
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Self-motivated, result-oriented, problem-solving attitude
  • High: collaboration, drive for results, people focus, customer focus
  • Demonstrable understanding of software engineering processes, including awareness of delivery requirements such as time and cost & an ability to recognize and manage performance with a focus on continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of static application security testing and tools
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry would be beneficial
