With continual growth comes opportunity and Sargent has an immediate opening for an Engineering Manager – Kahr Bearing.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, or designee, this is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the Kahr Bearing Engineering team to lead the design, development, and testing of new and existing products and support manufacturing. This position will collaborate with all areas of the organization, including engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and sales, to provide a solution to the customers’ design challenges.

  • Responsible for managing the design engineering department in support of business development initiatives while maintaining Sargent’s commitment to providing innovative, high-quality products to all customers.
  • Responsible for the quality and delivery of engineering design documentation to meet customer needs while supporting business objectives and schedules
  • Responsible for leading engineering research and development for IR&D initiatives and customer programs.
  • Manage the planning, scheduling, and measuring workload performance.
  • Lead design reviews and approve designs, analyses, and test procedures.
  • Responsible for engineering team talent management, including resource planning, performance reviews, skills gap analysis, and associated training.
  • Responsible for engineering management administrative activities, such as; policies and procedures, process development and maintenance, business operations support, and implementing compliance directives.
  • Drive technical excellence and continuous improvement in design processes and techniques
  • Accountability for developing design configurations and NRE costs for new business development, including writing proposals while interfacing with sales, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers
  • Team member in marketing efforts and business development.
  • Lead department security and maintain compliance with customer and company policies.
  • Travel (domestic and international) 25% of the time
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering curriculum and 7 years’ prior relevant experience, or related technical field with 10 years’ prior relevant experience
  • Recent experience leading engineers, technical staff, or manufacturing support personnel
  • Technical/engineering experience with emphasis on component design layout and modeling, detail design, tolerance stack-ups, analysis, and qualification testing
  • Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher education, in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with 15 or more years of prior relevant experience
  • Progressive responsibility in supervisory or leadership roles
  • Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Experience mentoring and providing career development directions to engineers at all levels
  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration between Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, Quality, and Engineering
  • Design and development knowledge of aerospace and/or industrial bearing technology, including self-lubricated bearings
  • Understanding of metal forming and manufacturing methods of bearings
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry, composites, chemical reactions, or rheology
  • Ability to effectively balance technical design maturity and manufacturing capability.
  • Experience upholding the application of rigorous engineering principles across the entire product life cycle
  • Knowledge of the following analyses and methods: stress and fatigue, FEA, weight, vibration, thermal, corrosion control, FMEA, FMECA, wear analysis, and material and process controls
  • Experience with technical proposal preparation
  • 3D modeling and drawing creation with Creo or equivalent software
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5M GD&T standard and familiarity with engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of root cause and corrective action
  • Knowledge in risk identification and assessment
  • Excellent writing, presentation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex technical problems and communicate in clear, simple terms
  • Understanding of quality systems, configuration management systems, and data management systems
  • Knowledge of program management tools and project planning
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
