Vertiv is hiring an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist in Lincoln, NE who will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing local Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs, projects, and initiatives to maintain compliance and promote a culture of safety at the Vertiv Lincoln facility. Provides direction to the Lincoln management team for the development and implementation of risk reduction solutions, safety best practices, and continuous improvements to drive to zero injuries. Ensures strict compliance with national, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, maintain, and promote safety as a Vertiv core value and drive a positive safety culture
  • Provide EHS guidance and direction to Lincoln's Plant Manager and management team
  • Identify and prioritize EHS initiatives in support of business needs
  • Resolve a wide scope of complex EHS-related situations
  • Maintain data collection and reporting systems for EHS metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Provide in-depth analysis of metrics and ways to improve safety systems, policies, and programs
  • Coordinate EHS metrics and best practices with the Vertiv Operating System (VOS)
  • Ensure new equipment, machines, workstations, and assembly lines are implemented following all applicable safety and environmental regulatory requirements and Vertiv best practices
  • Provide direction and oversight for the collection, sharing, and implementation of best practices throughout the facility
  • Advise the regional EHS leader on facility risks, incidents, actions, programs, and policies
  • Measure and monitor environmental impacts in conformance with Vertiv's environmental policy and government regulations
  • Establish, monitor, enforce, and improve EHS systems, programs, policies, and procedures to reduce or eliminate risk with the goal of zero injuries
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments in conjunction with applicable safety programs and regulatory requirements
  • Be informed about changes and updates to regulations that affect the facility
  • Maintain an employee safety committee, safety suggestion program, and safety promotional activities
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement required EHS training for employees
  • Maintain site safety records, such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Job Hazard Analyses (JSA), safety training records
  • Maintain incident and injury records and logs as required by OSHA and Vertiv
  • Ensure all EPA regulatory requirements are met, including but not limited to, hazardous/non-hazardous waste, stormwater permitting, SARA Title III & EPCRA Title I/II reporting, wastewater discharge, SPCC Plans, etc.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials shipping regulations
  • Ensure Hazmat shipping registration and vendor contracts are properly managed
  • Ensure work areas are ergonomically correct
  • Interface with all levels of the organization for safety promotion and compliance
  • Conduct incident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
  • Manage Workers' Compensation claims and attend hearings as required
  • Have a strong working knowledge of all manufacturing safety requirements, including machine guarding, welding and brazing, powder coat and autophoretic painting, powered industrial vehicles, material storage, loading docks, electrical test facilities, and assembly line operations
  • Manage and support the Emergency and Crisis Management Response Program and local Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT)
  • Coordinate with local medical providers and hospitals for work-related injuries
  • Coordinate and communicate with other local authorities, including Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Transportation, Emergency Management Agency, Fire Department, Police Department, and Health Department
  • Manage the site contractor safety program to ensure contractor compliance with Vertiv rules
  • Perform other related duties as needed
  • Normal work week is day shift Monday-Friday, but some after-hours and weekend work may be required for off-shift training, emergencies, or other special situations
  • Some travel may be required for training and cross-facility inspections and audits
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management or equivalent qualification of education and experience
  • A minimum of 1-3 years EHS experience in manufacturing operations or equivalent
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing facility regulatory compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to influence necessary levels of management in integrating safe and healthy behaviors in day-day operations
