POSITION TITLE: Environmental Manager

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

LOCATION: Florence KY

FLSA: Exempt

What we'll do together:

As the Environmental Manager reporting to the Engineering department, you will be responsible for coordinating environmental activities for the site. The first responsibility is to ensure compliance with regulations in force associated with the hair care manufacturing plant (Air and Water permitting, Waste Management). The second responsibility is to motivate plant personnel to improve the industrial indicators of the plant (Minimize Water and Energy usage, Minimize Transportable Waste, Improve Waste Recovery, Improve quality of waste water discharge). These key indicators will be monitored and reported on a monthly basis in accordance with L'OREAL's established policy.

You'll work with other members of the engineering and manufacturing departments to undertake studies and capital projects necessary for achieving improvement ideas. A significant part of the position includes leading the plant environmental committees with activities to support the surrounding community.

The position will have several indirect reports; plant personnel completing recycling activities, Hazardous Waste management, and plant AWARE committee (environmental team) as well as technical teams associated with specific conservation tasks (Compressed air reductions, water reduction, energy reduction).

What your day will look like:

  • Manage all waste recovery activities on site (Hazardous and non-hazardous)
  • Manage all water and energy conservation activities on site
  • Manage plant environmental committees
  • Participate in and lead plant teams associated with specific environmental aspects
  • Complete required compliance and permitting documents (Sanitation District, Hazardous Waste, Air Emissions, storm water)
  • Complete monthly reporting of L'OREAL key indicators
  • Manage public activities associated with environmental programs of the plant or company (Earth Day, Adopt a Highway, etc)
  • Represent company at state and national programs. (NPPR, EPA, Educational Activities)
  • On an infrequent basis, travel to other L'OREAL facilities to understand their programs and gain ideas on improving the Florence plant program.
  • Lead and manage the ISO 14001 and ISO50001 program at the Florence site
  • Work with EHS Management on improvement of Industrial Hygiene aspects of the plant, especially those related to the work environment.
  • Manage studies and capital projects associated with improving environmental performance.
  • Support or manage plant teams associated with Spill Response.

  • What you'll need:

    EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or

    Environmental Science strongly preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

    5 - 10 years experience in a technical position required, with experience as Environmental manager/compliance officer. Must have proven experience in achieving plant objectives through driving environmental improvement projects (specifically water, waste & CO2).
