Job Summary:
The Office of Academic Affairs at Eastern Washington University is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for our Executive Director - Institutional Effectiveness position.

Position Summary The Executive Director is responsible for planning and managing multi-faceted projects, related to strategic planning, accreditation efforts, and other special projects. The position performs highly complex tasks related to planning, determining organizational needs, collaborating with and communicating to campus constituencies, making recommendations and providing progress reports, and following through on project implementation. The Executive Director is responsible for leading and directing efforts in assessment, data analysis, accreditation, and planning to provide the basis for determining and/or recommending solutions to help us accomplish our mission and meet our commitments.

This is a 12-month administrative position reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Major units reporting to the Executive Director include Institutional Research, Assessment and Accreditation, and Strategic University Planning.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in statistics, public administration, or closely related field that includes statistics and/or research methodology from an accredited institution
  • Four or more years of higher education experience with responsibilities in areas relevant to this position
  • Experience in an academic leadership role
  • Experience supervising managers and/or staff
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, communicate, and utilize institutional data
  • Demonstrated ability to lead accreditation activities
  • Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and development of course, program, and/or college learning outcomes assessment
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively, accurately, and autonomously to achieve goals and deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience using a major statistical package SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across all segments of the institution
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data including survey responses and personally identifiable information
  • Experience with common institutional research efforts, external surveys, and governmental reporting (e.g., IPEDS)
  • Experience working with faculty and leadership on a university or college campus
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, equity, and diversity


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a faculty member
  • Doctorate in statistics, research methodology, evaluation methodology, curriculum & instruction, education, leadership, or related field appropriate to the role of this position.
  • Five years of related experience in Institutional Research, preferably in a leadership role

Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: Institutional Research
  • Create and assess annual goals for the IR team;
  • Analyze and interpret data (trends, statistical, forecasts) to support data-informed decision making;
  • Serve as the liaison to federal, state, and local agencies for the purpose of evaluating and fulfilling data requests;
  • Utilize new advances in data distribution, analytic tools, and reporting software to support decision making;
  • Support campus stakeholders in the interpretation and use of data to inform decision making;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibility / Duty: Accreditation
  • Serve as Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO);
  • Support NWCCU accreditation efforts, in collaboration with the Vice Provost and other campus stakeholders;
  • Evaluate, identify and communicate requirements for data, self-study, documentation, reports, site visits, and other components leading up to the successful achievement of new accreditations or renewal of existing accreditations;
  • Develop project plans, guidelines, forms and reports for managing accreditation activities;
  • Identify and clarify core themes of the university, college and/or programs, so that they reflect and encompass the university’s mission, vision, values and goals for incorporation into accreditation reports;
  • Facilitate and support engagement by university, college and program leadership in regular, systematic participatory, self-reflective, and evidence-based assessment of its accomplishments and challenges;
  • Analyze data and produce reports, on progress and outcomes for university administration and college leadership, which provide evidence of strengths and challenges within and across programs;
  • Develop and oversee a system for collecting, sharing and archiving accreditation reports, data and materials;
  • Oversee and/or assist with accreditor/regulator visit preparation;
  • Oversee and/or assist with the preparation and submission of institutional and programmatic reports and responses;
  • Conduct final review of self-study reports for accreditation initial/renewal submissions;
  • Conduct mock visits with thorough review of materials, facility and staff readiness and provides report on such to university administration, college and program leadership;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibility / Duty: Assessment and Academic Planning
  • Coordinate a systematic, comprehensive assessment of learning outcomes for the University’s academic programs;
  • Coordinate assessment processes and programs focusing on the first-year experience, general education, and other campus-wide measures of institutional effectiveness;
  • Work collaboratively with academic to develop and implement assessment tools and plans;
  • Ensures collection and analysis of assessment data for all programs and services;
  • Supervise the technical aspects of assessment, including design of databases, data collection, and analysis of data;
  • Coordinate planning processes that are related to assessment and planning outcomes;
  • Advocate for assessment as a means of improving student learning and institutional effectiveness;
  • Develop annual reports to assist academic departments with analyzing their data;
  • Assist the Provost in comprehensive academic planning efforts;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

This is an Administrative Exempt position is covered by the EWU Policy 406- 01, Exempt Employment.

Salary Information: The salary for this position is $96,476 (minimum) up to $135,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills.
