The Manufacturing Process and Analytical Science Lead reports into the Vice President Global Technical Operations (GTO) and is a strategic leadership role spanning end to end technical leadership including analytical, drug substance, drug product, combination devices, and final product packaging. It has a significant input to the strategy that spans across all GTO functions. The GTO organization works closely and collaboratively with other Global Functions including Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD), Product Technology Development (PTD) and the Manufacturing, Science and Technology (MS&T) network across the Biologic Sites to enable excellence in manufacturing. Provide tactical and strategic technical support to the organization and our customers that result in safe, high quality, and continuously improving production for commercial phase projects. In addition, this position is responsible for facilitating implementation of relevant global technical standards, cross-network communication/collaborations, This position will lead a team of 40~scientists and engineers located in the US, Europe, and Asia.

What you will do:

  • Lead and develop the GTO Manufacturing Process and Analytical Science organization (ways of working, organization and people) ensuring GTO has the processes, capabilities and people needed to support Global Commercial Support for Biologics in the future.
  • Ensures that technical issues in manufacturing are resolved in a timely manner to enable reliable and consistent drug supply.
  • Ensures flawless launches with robust manufacturing processes and analytical assays by partnering with R&D during product development cycles.
  • Partner with GTO digital head to implement fit-for-purpose digital initiatives across the network with input and engagement from appropriate groups.
  • Represent the GTO in Operations-wide initiatives.
  • Partner with manufacturing site representatives to implement good practices for network-wide adoption and drive product specific improvement to improve Cost of Goods and Robustness of our Products.
  • Ensure network maturity to improve network performance on par with best in class in the industry.
  • Helps to align Development, Quality, Regulatory and Operations technical decisions necessary to ensure the commercial viability of manufacturing processes.
  • Provides scientific leadership and group management to his/her direct organization, setting high standards, building, and managing a high performing technical group that supports the network. Instills a strong customer service and high-performance culture with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Carries out appropriate and effective succession planning; accountable for strengthening technical capabilities in the network attracting the best talents in the industry driving.
  • Build/Maintain a diverse, inclusive, high performing technical organization of highly motivated and talented individuals.
  • Progress the AZ Biologics sustainability agenda in terms of influencing product design, drive sustainable packaging etc.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in a scientific discipline
  • Mastery of science within a specific field
  • Significant experience in functional strategy in a multi-national environment
  • Extensive experience within the biopharmaceutical industry and significant understanding of the overall drug development and stakeholder management process
  • Ability to influence strategically and persuade tactfully, to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive organizational relationships

Desired Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of the latest technical/scientific biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing
