Are you passionate about improving health outcomes in the Americas?

The Lancet Editorial Team - Americas . We are a small and friendly team handling a high volume of submissions while priding ourselves on offering a personalized service to the researchers who publish with us.

You will encounter some of the best research in the Americas, collaborate with a regional and global authorship base, and get to work closely with other journal editors as well as our our production, marketing, communications, and administration.

The Executive Editor will manage and coordinate the day-to-day activities of The Lancet's editorial team in the USA. Also, they will serve as an ambassador for The Lancet family of journals in North America. They will contribute to peer-review, editorial writing, and commissioning activities for The Lancet, but will work with Lancet specialty journals to promote special projects in the USA.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

North America strategy

To work toward developing specialty-specific research and institutional targets and to implement the strategy for expansion in North America for the Lancet family of journals. A successful applicant will be keenly interested in scholarly publication, research, and health.

Peer review and clinical trials acquisition

To read and critically evaluate all papers allocated, present them to the team, arrange peer review for a select few with the highest potential clinical impact, and participate in consensual decision making.

To take part in the critical assessment of papers at pre- and post-review stages.

To negotiate revisions with authors ensuring that manuscripts that are accepted for publication meet with the highest standards of medical and scientific reporting.

To follow research activity in allocated specialty areas, and across medicine, to regularly communicate with international key medical researchers, and pro-actively attract key clinical trials to The Lancet.

To regularly assess editorial working practices to improve peer review practices.

Commissioning

To contribute to the commissioning of, Seminars, Reviews, Series and Commissions in agreement with the commissioning teams.

Editorial writing

To take part in the weekly rota of leader writing and contribute clinical and scientific ideas for editorials and World Reports.

Education

Ph.D. or MD is required for this role

7 to 10 years post doc (preferred)
