VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Coordinator for our busy hospital. We are a fast paced, AAHA-accredited, 24 hour emergency and specialty hospital in Norwalk Connecticut. Our newly renovated hospital provides services including ER, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Cardiology. We provide an ideal setting to expand and develop skills in every area of our practice.

The Facility Maintenance Coordinator will work under the direction of the Hospital Director and Safety & Facility Manager and will oversee repairs, maintenance, and upkeep of the hospital facility. We are currently looking for a daytime position, Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, with shift flexibility required on certain days. Salary starting at $24/hour.

Qualifications 

  • This position requires someone who is a self-starter, organized, detail oriented, and able to maintain the overall premises in good, working order.

  • Professional behavior in a manner consistent with published organizational values and guidelines.

  • Knowledgeable in performing miscellaneous building repairs and anticipating maintenance needs for hospital and hospital grounds (previous experience with facility repairs preferred).

  • IT troubleshooting experience preferred.

  • Communications and requests for assistance will typically come from hospital leaders but may, from time to time, originate with others. Thus, excellent communication skills are necessary. 

  • Physical ability to complete miscellaneous janitorial or light landscaping duties.

  • Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs. 

  • Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 8 hour day.

  • Any allergies to animals should be controllable through medication.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities 

  • Oversee and coordinate equipment installation and construction projects to ensure specifications are met, as directed.

  • Maintaining high cleanliness standards throughout the entire hospital including hospital grounds and parking lot, completing miscellaneous janitorial and landscaping duties.

  • Interface as liaison with contractors for building updates and improvements.

  • Identify maintenance needs and offer products and services to meet those needs, procure and retrieve various supplies and parts for the hospital and its equipment.

  • Perform seasonal tasks, (i.e., weeding, spraying, fertilizing, holiday decorations, etc.) 

  • Perform maintenance, as needed, on perimeter and internal fence, lines, and gates.

  • Monitor performance of vendors under contract.

  • Trouble-shoot and/or perform miscellaneous repairs of HVAC and plumbing systems.

  • Repair or replace lighting fixtures, bulbs and/or ballasts.

  • Using power-washer, clean exterior of building, sidewalks and related areas.

  • Oversee stocking supplies as needed, place requests for orders. 

  • Constantly develop greater knowledge in all areas of hospital operations, facilities and related systems.

  • Handle adverse service situation appropriately and promptly, refer serious situations to supervisor or appropriate department.
