Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst

The University System Office seeks a Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst to, under administrative direction, perform University Accounting functions related to Banner bank and fund reconciliations, data analysis, and customer service functions related to University Payroll finance transactions posted to Banner general and operating ledgers and provide highly specialized functional and technical support in other payroll, general ledger, and operating ledger areas assist with the development of policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility in compliance with specialized university, state, and federal regulations. Work is performed in an office setting and is sedentary for the most part. No unusual physical exertion is required. Work environment has frequent interruptions and distractions that create an atmosphere ranging from calm to chaotic. Ability to work under pressure is required to perform a variety of responsibilities and ensure daily operational needs are met.

Additional responsibilities include:
Reconcile large and complex payroll reconciliations related to financial activity across the entire University of Illinois System.Complete various Banner fund and bank reconciliation on a periodic basis and resolve reconciling items.Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of gross wage and fringe benefit payroll transactions in the general ledger. Serve as an advisor to units regarding labor redistributions.Develop and complete reports to meet financial reporting and regulatory requirements, such as annual audit schedules.Assist with various activities associated with ensuring the integrity of the University of Illinois chart of accounts. These maintenance activities require a comprehensive understanding of the chart of accounts and functionality of Banner.Assist university departments with encumbrance issues. This task involves analyzing the posting of encumbrances and determining the proper method of correction.Initiate and develop financial queries using database applications such as SQL and Microsoft Access to fulfill analytical review, reconciliation, and reporting requirements.Assist with the documentation of accounting procedures and business processes relevant to the university setting.Perform other assigned duties which would be appropriate for a Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst.Serve on committees/teams as assigned as a representative of University Accounting and Financial Reporting, such as the UAFR Professional Development Implementation Team.Education and ExperienceRequired:
Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field and two (2) years of professional level accounting experience orPossession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA) orMaster's degree in Accountancy or a related field.CertificationPreferred:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA),Certified Internal Auditor (CIA),Certified Management Accountant (CMA)Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesUnderstanding of fund accounting principles and a working knowledge of how to apply them in a public University setting within the State of Illinois to ensure compliance with the various State of Illinois policies, guidelines, and regulations.Analytical skills to perform analysis of financial transactions within a higher education setting and the ability to enforce various applicable policies and regulations while still providing quality customer service.Proficient computer skills and knowledge of applicable computer systems. This would include skills in Microsoft Office products (such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access) as well as the Banner Finance module.Ability to propose policies/procedures that improve and/or maintain the effectiveness of daily financial operations.Strong verbal and written communications skills to effectively present information and respond to requests for guidance and/or clarification.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to multi-task and produce accurate, detail-oriented work to meet stringent deadlines? creativity in problem solving and exercising independent judgment and discretion.SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATIONThis is a full-time Civil Service Business Administrative position appointed on a 12 month service basis.
