Summary:

We are seeking to fill a FPGA Design Engineer position located in Santa Barbara, CA. This role is well suited for a person interested in a hands-on and team-oriented environment.

In this role, the candidate will develop, debug, and integrate features and interfaces in FPGA hardware. Tasks entail writing FPGA requirements, developing FPGA RTL code, generating self-checking test benches, synthesis, timing analysis, software regression tests and support of debug and system integration activities. The candidate will work closely with RTL designers, embedded software engineers and hardware engineers on both new and existing designs.

A qualified candidate should have strong problem-solving abilities. Interest and willingness to work and contribute within a collaborative team is a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Architect, specify, design, develop and test FPGA designs (Verilog) on embedded FPGA and SoC platforms
  • Implement, design, test and debug code for real-time data, feedback loops, filters, and analog to digital signal processing
  • FPGA design synthesis and timing closure
  • Hardware lab verification and troubleshooting
  • Software Regression Test Development
  • Responsibilities will be commensurate with work experience
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned

Internal: RTL Designers, Embedded Software Engineers, Hardware Engineers

External: Technical Support, Marketing, Sales, Customers

  • Proficient in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Tools
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with solder rework
  • Familiarity with the use of logic analyzers and oscilloscopes

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • S. in Electrical Engineering or related field required
  • 5+ years of FPGA design experience required
  • Proficient in Verilog (preferred) or VHDL
  • Experience with multiple clock-domain, high-utilization FPGA designs
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs, SoCs is a plus
  • Experience with FPGA Simulation tools (ModelSim Preferred)
  • Familiarity with DSP functions in FPGAs
Additional Skills of Interest:
  • Familiarity with C#, C++, CAN bus, I2C, SPI, Digital filters, Digital Phase Locked loops, Motor Control, PWM, Encoder Feedback protocols
  • Familiarity with Industrial Ethernet Protocols (e.g. EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet IP)
  • Familiarity with algorithm simulation and modelling software (e.g Matlab, VisSim)
Travel Requirements:
  • Occasional travel (both domestic & international) may be necessary (< 5%)
  • Must be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.
