Job Description:
JOB DUTIES: Administer, coordinate and implement the management of all State Wildlife Management Areas within the assigned area. Coordinate and administer area related contractual services, agricultural leases, federal farm program requirements, project requisitions and similar land management documentation. Insure compliance with federal aid guidelines. Perform Land reconnaissance on potential acquisition sites. Assist in the implementation of all technical services related to wildlife surveys and inventories, disease control, animal damage control and wildlife propagation projects. Assist with research projects involving district wildlife species. Assist in the development of field recommendations regarding seasons, bag limits and general regulations based on interpretation of population surveys, field impressions and knowledge of life history information. Supervise seasonal workers. Assist in the implementation of the regulatory functions of the Division related to controlled shooting areas, game farms, scientific collection and other similar programs, as well as general WMA regulations. Prepare budget requests and monitor expenditures for assigned areas. Establish and maintain professional relations with a broad array of outdoor recreationist and nature advocacy groups within the District. Insure control of noxious weeds and maintain boundary fences to comply with state laws. Perform related work as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish and wildlife management, natural resources, biological sciences, or related field AND three years' experience in fish and wildlife management, natural resources, biological sciences, or related field; OR Master's degree in fish and wildlife management, natural resources, biological sciences, or related field AND one year of experience in fish and wildlife management, natural resources, biological sciences, or related field. Other: Driver's license required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles; wildlife species; life history and habitat needs; research, statistics, budgeting processes and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to wildlife as well as a working knowledge of current management philosophies, such as the conservation of biological diversity; landscape ecology and adaptive management. Ability to communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and maintain hand and power tools including chain saws, tractors and trucks; work with little supervision; supervise and direct the work of others and develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics.
