Description:
Reporting to the Service Line Leader, Oncology, Oncology Administration, this position is responsible for genetic assessment and counseling of individuals and families with a suspected hereditary predisposition to cancer. Consultation is provided on both an inpatient and an out-patient basis. This position is also responsible for providing genetic consultation and continuing education to physicians and healthcare providers.
1. M.S. or Ph.D. in Medical Genetics or Genetic Counseling from a program recognized by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counselors is required.
2. One (1) year of previous counseling experience in cancer genetics is required.
3. Certification by the respective Board in that capacity is required.
4. Licensure as a genetic counselor by the State of California Department of Public Health is required.
5. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required.
6. Successful completion of SAMC Medical Staff credentialing process within sixty (60) days of hire is required. Allied Health Professional Staff membership maintenance and meeting requirements for focused and ongoing professional performance evaluation, as defined in the Allied Health Professional Policy & Procedures Manual, is also required.
7. Strong verbal and written communication, organizational skills, and leadership skills are required.
