CLASS SUMMARY:
The GIS Intern will work on aviation-specific ArcGIS datasets to web applications for airfield inspections, mapping integration for work order management, and develop GIS data for the airport's enterprise asset management system (Infor). The GIS team will work together with planners and engineers to perform spatial and 3D analysis, create maps/exhibits for a variety of projects including Airport Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan (ALPs) updates, as well as work with photogrammetry and LiDAR mapping data. Working seamlessly between a GIS desktop environment and ArcGIS Online, convert data between AutoCAD drawings and GIS, manage geodatabases, interpret aerial imagery, engineering schematics, create new GIS data when needed, and help build web and mobile applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

Create maps, graphs, and data sets using GIS software and data collection equipment.
Edit existing shapefiles, geodatabases, & relational databases.
Perform research to obtain and expand existing datasets.
Gather and report on GIS data and determine how datasets are best utilized through GIS.
Collaborate closely with Planning and Development, Airfield Operations, Information Technology, Asset Management, Geospatial Manager, and other airport departments/staff to deliver GIS data solutions.
Participate in a group setting to develop innovative solutions using GIS technology and content to help the GIS team make more informed decisions.
Analyze and model relationships between geographic data sets.
Operate and maintain ArcGIS online software, and peripheral devices.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Qualified candidates must be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or Urban Planning.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance.
Valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Working knowledge of ESRI desktop software (ArcMap 10.X, ArcGIS Pro, AGOL).
Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
General knowledge of Autodesk products such as AutoCAD, Revit.
Good working knowledge of coordinate systems, transformations, and mapping projections.
Automating tasks with Safe Software FME Desktop or Python scripting would be an advantage.

ADAAND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
