KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Conducts environmental scanning and analysis of bills, laws, and policy issues that affect DJS programs and focus areas. This includes identifying, tracking, and analyzing policies and legislation, and keeping management and staff informed.

Respond to or coordinate DJS response to Executive, Congressional, Departmental, other CDC programs, and other external requests for information, including briefings, proposals, reports, reviews, evaluations, talking points, presentations, Government Accountability Office and Inspector General studies, and position statements concerning programs/activities, policy, goals and objectives, strategy, progress/performance, personnel, and fiscal and other matters.

Supports DJS staff and management in program planning activities, such as the Congressional Budget Justification and budget proposal processes and internal DJS budget and program planning.

Supports DJS staff and management in strategic planning and performance management activities, including development of performance measures and reporting on performance.

Supports issues and risk management activities, including the CDC Forecasting Portal (a portal for reporting up upcoming activities of interest to center, Center, HHS, and Administration leaders), and policy clearance of DJS products.

Supports strong DJS partnerships with other CDC programs; state, tribal, local, and territorial health department officials; national partner organizations (e.g., Association of State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Health Officials), and others.

Serves as a principal advisor in developing and formulating short- and long-range public health program goals, objectives, and policies.

Coordinates high-level, collaborative projects with other internal and/or external organizations to meet broad agency goals.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

OTHER DUTIES

Formulates clear, compelling messages on complicated issues and creates a concise and well-written narrative to express it.

Builds and maintains relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss scientific information and findings manage stories and establish connection points for future story development. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven (7) years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Policy work by definition involves frequently handling unexpected requests/tasks, short deadlines, and sensitive issues. Sometimes there is not full information one would desire to conduct a task. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. The pay range for this role is $135,000 - 145,000, with the final offer amount dependent on location, skillset, and experience.
