Description
If unable to fill at the Highway Materials and Tests Technician II level, will consider applicants at the Highway Materials and Tests Technician I level.

Location: 1400 Highway 2, Lincoln, NE

Salary: Hwy Materials & Tests Tech II - $16.770/Hwy Materials & Tests Tech I - $14.654

Examples of Work
• Operate and maintain coring equipment and pickups.
• Prepare coring equipment supplies for field work.
• Obtain final pavement cores for thickness & strength deficiencies.
• Obtain cores for research and projects as needed.
• Maintain project & research coring files.
• Use NDOT computer program Core Samples to create random coring worksheets.
• Review project plans and concrete pavement laid reports to enter data in Core Samples program.
• Assist with performing smoothness testing on bridge decks.
• Assist with pavement smoothness testing on asphalt and concrete pavements.
• Assist with conducting bridge deck surveys.
• Calibrate/verify equipment in the M&R central labs and branch labs.
• Enter laboratory equipment into computer and maintain equipment files.
• Will perform miscellaneous tests, research as needed with M&R Division.

Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Highway Materials and Tests Technician II - Experience in highway construction inspection, or materials testing, or similar material laboratory operations. Highway Materials and Tests Technician I - No specific education, training, or experience is required for entry to this class.

PREFERRED: Must have experience working with Microsoft programs, Word & Excel. Must be able to lift 50lbs and work at heights on or around bridges. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Experience using hand tools to perform mechanical activities. Will train qualified candidate.

OTHER: A valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Must be available for overnight travel and occasional long workdays. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Computer experience with Microsoft Word & Excel. Able to operate small hand tools and equipment. NDOT encourages applicants of all ages and experience.
