Summary: Manages the HR department for the Houston office and handles all aspects of Human Resources including but not limited to working with functional leaders to align HR programs and initiatives with business objectives, providing support in handling employee relations issues, assisting with training for HR related programs, assist with recruiting, communicating and enforcing HR polices and employment related decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues
  • Works with Houston managers and provides coaching as needed to keep the company compliant with HR Laws
  • Documents and logs employee relations issues and consults with Associate Director of HR for unfamiliar or complex situations to ensure consistency.
  • Reviews disciplinary action forms and provides feedback/approval to managers.
  • Promotes corporate values and nurtures a positive work environment.
  • Ensures all decisions are compliant with federal and state regulations in all aspects of employment including but not limited to hiring, corrective action, termination, workplace investigations, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, EPA, ADEA, EEOC, FCRA, etc.
  • Consults with Associate HR Director regarding situations that may warrant probation, suspension or discharge.
  • Handles workers compensation claims including first report of injury, communication with employee regarding available resources and approval of invoices.
  • Reviews unemployment claims for Texas, ensures timely responses and participates in hearings.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition team to ensure that positions are filled quickly with the best talent.
  • Assists with the development of Human Resource related training programs and works with the training department to add material to SFS University.
  • Conducts new employee orientation in the absence of other HR staff including verification of eligibility to work in the U.S and e-verify.
  • Ensures employee files are current and all pertinent documents have been acknowledged.
  • Leads and/or participates on employee engagement committees such as Wellness, Community Affairs or Fun Committee.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Conducts exit interviews with employees who have voluntarily left the company and provides feedback to management.
  • Assists the department in carrying out various human resources programs and procedures for all employees
  • This position involves regular access to specified personal information of consumers, including, but not limited to, Social Security numbers and dates of birth.

Additional Responsibilities Perform the above-referenced essential duties and responsibilities as well as assist in directing the work of employees assigned to the department by leading and overseeing their day-to-day activities, work schedules, timecard approvals, quarterly performance review and by providing work-related guidance in accordance with the Company s policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a HR Degree/Certificate and five years experience in various Human Resource positions. three years experience managing/supervising the HR function at a company with 500 or more employees.
