Wood has an outstanding career opportunity for a Hydrogeologist/Groundwater Modeler with modeling capabilities to join our Phoenix or Tucson, AZ team. This position offers opportunities to work closely with other technical staff to provide hydrogeological expertise in support of challenging projects involving baseline studies, site investigation, remediation, water resources management, and mining throughout the US, Mexico, Europe and South America. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine data analysis to identify spatial and temporal trends in hydrogeological data, including water levels, pumping, chemical concentrations, precipitation, and streamflow
  • Develop three-dimensional conceptual site models that integrate multidisciplinary data and interpretations
  • Develop and execute numerical groundwater flow and transport models to support permitting, dewatering investigations, water balance estimation, feasibility studies, remedial design, and performance monitoring
  • Develop and implement consistent workflows to streamline data processing and to provide high quality visual interpretations, including hydrostratigraphic cross sections, potentiometric surface maps, plume maps and chemical cross sections, and time-series plots for multiple data types
  • Work with other scientists and engineers to prepare technical reports, work plans, and presentations to clients, regulators, and other stakeholders
  • Plan and execute field investigations, including drilling, logging, monitoring well installation and development, aquifer testing, geophysical surveys, and soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling
  • Follow company safety standards, participate in safety training and prepare and implement site safety plans
  • Periodic travel to project sites in the US and international locations for multiple days is anticipated. Approximately 10% overnight travel


Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Geology or engineering. MS in related field preferred
  • PG or PE is a plus
  • 5 - 10 years + relevant experience
  • Strong academic understanding of hydrogeology and formal training in numerical modeling are required
  • Strong quantitative and computer skills are required, including numerical modeling using multiple versions of MODFLOW, MT3D, and/or FEFLOW and pre/post-processing software programs (e.g. Groundwater Vistas)
  • Experience with aquifer testing analysis using analytical software programs (e.g. Aqtesolve, AquiferWin32)
  • Experience with one or more 3D geospatial modeling and visualization software programs (e.g. Leapfrog, EVS, EarthVision)
  • Experience with spatial analysis and proficiency using ArcGIS is required
  • Strong organizational skills and data management experience to perform data evaluation using Excel, Access, and ArcGIS
  • Experience with one or more desktop programming languages (e.g. VBA, Python) a plus, but not required
  • Excellent attention to detail and technical writing capabilities to produce high quality reports
  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills is a plus
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in the US and international locations. Approximately 10% overnight travel
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus
  • 24-hour MSHA certification a plus
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
