The Innovation Lab Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the Innovation, Technology, and Design (ITD) Laboratory, which includes scheduling, user assistance, software management, hardware integrity, and planning for future needs.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Develops policies and procedures to ensure efficient laboratory operations and quality service.

Monitors inventory of supplies and daily laboratory usage.

Hires, schedules, trains, and manages student laboratory technicians, and ensures projects are assigned and completed in a timely fashion.

Manages and supervises the daily operation and maintenance of lab computers and other equipment, including 3D printers and associated software programs.

Prepares laboratory equipment for virtual immersion sessions.

Sets-up audio-visual needs of lab for class/meeting presentations and solves technical issues.

Maintains and writes documentation of procedures and assures security of the system and its facility.

Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

Prepares and completes work orders, as needed. Facilitates event set-up and maintenance of the ITD Innovation Lab.

Maintains a comprehensive inventory of lab equipment.

Monitors lab to maintain operational standards and tidiness.

Reports and corrects physical problems in the lab.

Reports security risks or concerns.

Produces monthly reports of tasks performed and issues encountered.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

The Innovation Lab Manager will be working primarily with students in the B.S. in Innovation, Technology, and Design (ITD) program in the Innovation Lab.

The Innovation Lab Manager will report to the ITD Senior Program Manager and the Director of Facilities Operations for the College of Engineering.

The Innovation Lab Manager will provide support to students working on projects to develop prototypes, using 3D printers and computer modeling.
