Description

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 (Welding) at the Walla Walla campus.

General Responsibilities:

The Instructional & Classroom Support Tech 2 assists instructors with daily tasks involved in the educational welding setting. This includes instructing and monitoring safety procedures involved in the various welding processes, and operation of fabrication machinery. In addition, Instructional Tech will help with lab housekeeping, set-up, and hands on demonstrations to assure program students have the tools and help available to safely and successfully meet each day's instructional goal. Position also aids instructors with continuous Welding lab configuration updates and machine maintenance to ensure efficient instruction. This is to be a collaborative role with the welding instructors.


Essential Functions:

Safety monitoring, and hands on demonstrations

  • Assisting students with safety procedures, and welding processes including, but not limited to Oxyfuel Welding/Cutting, PAC, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, CNC cutting, operation of fabrication equipment.

  • Machine Maintenance
  • Performing routine preventative maintenance, including, but not limited to greasing moving parts, cleaning and dusting out, changing fluids, and monitoring the successful operation of Welding, and fabrication equipment.

  • House keeping
  • Monitoring and performing housekeeping in the form of sweeping, spill cleanup, and leads/cable rollup. Maintaining a safe working environment.

  • Ability to understand, follow and apply basic instructional procedures and effectively support the vocational instructor and students.
  • Ability to understand and apply requirements and department policies.
  • Possess skills of the welding program including but not limited to basic competencies.
  • Ability to use various welding program equipment.
  • Ability to recognize the value of cultural, ethnic, gender and other individual differences in people.
  • Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, cooperation and mutual respect.



  • Required Qualifications:
    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.

  • Associates Degree - Welding Technology or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of welding industry

  • Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Graduate from Walla Walla Community College Welding Technology
  • WABO qualified Welder
  • Welding industry experience
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

    Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This classified position is in a bargaining unit for which WPEA Higher Ed is the exclusive representative.

    Work is in a classroom / shop / lab setting with all welding industry hazards inherent to the Trade, including electrical/oxygen/acetenyl/ welding; hazardous spill cleanup; cords and cables; machinery maintenance. This contract position work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday 8-hours each day. During the summer, work schedule is Monday through Thursday 10-hours each day. Daily interaction with instructors, students and the college community.

    The college has an excellent benefit program including medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; and retirement plan. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP) unless declined at time of hire. WWCC requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary. The college is tobacco free.
