Position Title: Instructional Technology Assistant (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)

Department: Pima Community College - Pima Online, Center for Learning Technology

Rate of Pay: Band 4: $22.64 - $28.32/ hour

Position Summary:

The Assistant Instructional Technologist will work under the Instructional Technologists in the Center for Learning Technology (CLT) to support the management of PlayPosit, H5P, Perusall, Packback, and Panopto. The position will develop support content, staff and faculty training assistance, troubleshooting assistance, and other support duties as assigned. This position

serves as supplemental support for college-wide and pilot instructional technologies supported by the CLT.

The Assistant Instructional Technologist reports to the Director of the Center for Learning Technology. and supports the CLT's growing knowledge base and support materials. In particular, the Assistant Instructional Technologist provides services to students, faculty, and staff in the use of instructional technology that relate to the academic mission of the college.

The department's mission is to develop and maintain Online Learning services and support the integration of technology into instruction at the college.

About the Center for Learning Technology:

For nearly 20 years, the Center for Learning Technology team of Instructional Designers, Instructional Web Designers, Instructional Technologists, and a Digital Media Producer has led the development of innovative online courses and projects across Pima's six campuses. Under the umbrella of PimaOnline (the educational division for online courses and program development), the CLT staff participates in broader improvement initiatives including the Quality Review of online courses. As part of the CLT, the position of Assistant Instructional Technologist will effectively provide instructional technology support for Pima Community College programs and courses. This position will successfully partner with the CLT's Instructional Technologists to support instructional technology needs for online (and blended-learning/multi-modal) learning environments. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (preferably Desire2Learn- D2L) and education technologies and instructional design standards
  • Evaluates educational technologies to determine its pedagogical value
  • Provide guidance in troubleshooting and maintaining learning tools/technology in order to optimize efficiencies, stability, and user experience
  • Support Instructional Technologists management of vendor relationships of adopted/integrated learning tools/technologies
  • Collaborate with other college units as assigned
  • Research new and emerging technologies as assigned 
  • Works closely with Instructional Technologists to vett and test product upgrades
  • Take appropriate action to identify, investigate, and resolve user issues quickly and understand when best to escalate them due to their potential impact
  • Support Instructional Technologists with tool training for users who have varying levels of comfort and experience with adopted learning technologies
  • Good communication skills for collaboration across all business and functional areas
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties, as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Vocational or technical training in online learning and/or teaching or a closely related field of study required
  • Associate's degree or applicable certification/training in a related field of study preferred
  • Up to one (1)  year of related experience with technical support experience, or equivalent
  • technical proficiency

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) to Three (3) years of related experience preferred 
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Ability to quickly learn new technical skills and technologies
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), especially Desire2Learn (D2L)
  • Basic understanding of LTI integrations
  • Knowledge of how to create support documentation including screen capture, web annotation, and video recording
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external groups within a diverse, multicultural, and academic environment
  • Excellent customer service skills; maintain a student-friendly and community-friendly environment
  • Good communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback, reflect, and respond
  • Project management skills/abilities with attention to detail and the ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Skills and knowledge working with online education tools and software including PlayPosit, H5P, Perusall, Packback, and/or Panopto
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Skill in current and applicable computer programming languages relative to the assignment 
  • Skill in effective communication (both written and oral) 
  • Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature 
  • Skill in project management principles, processes, and techniques 
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing technical environment
