INSTRUCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
Bridgewater College The Department of Philosophy and Religion seeks a full-time Instructor of Philosophy beginning August 2024.

Successful candidates will have an M.A. or Ph.D. in Philosophy or closely related field; Ph.D. is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in ethics and college level teaching experience.

Responsibilities include teaching philosophy, professional ethics, and religious ethics. The teaching load is 24 semester credits per year (4-4 distribution). The successful candidate will show a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population within a liberal arts context and will be willing to participate in the College's First Year Seminar and General Education programs. The Department of Philosophy and Religion consists of 2 tenured faculty and offers minors in ethics, peace studies, and philosophy and religion. Candidates who are ABD will be considered if their degree is expected to be conferred by August 1, 2024.

Pay is competitive, and salary is commensurate with experience. This full-time position offers a full benefits package, including paid tuition at the College for eligible dependents.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor's degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley. An excellent school system, healthy business environment, numerous arts and cultural events, one of the state's lowest crime rates, and a variety of outdoor opportunities and historic attractions draw many to the region.
