Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.

The qualified applicant will join a cohort of employees re-entering the workforce after a career break of at least two years. This cohort will receive special on-boarding designed to provide an effective re-entry into the workforce. iReturn℠ provides experienced professionals with a 12-week "returnship" to prepare for a full-time career in one of several fields at Northrop Grumman through training, professional development and networking opportunities. Qualified applicants will join a cohort of employees returning to the workforce after a 2+ year career break for this "returnship" program that focuses on giving you a seamless transition back into the workforce. This cohort program will approximately run from August - November and prepare candidates for an effective re-entry into the workforce. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be eligible for full-time roles with the company.

This position will support the development, build, and validation of ruggedized electronic equipment for military applications. The candidate will work within the Mechanical & Optical Technology organization. The team is seeking a mechanical engineer to apply and expand their experience in hardware design, analysis, documentation, and integration of electro-mechanical and optical systems.

Strong communication skills are required for success in all phases of the role. The engineer will serve on engineering teams, interfacing heavily with other mechanical engineers and analysts, as well as engineers from related disciplines, program management, manufacturing, and supply chain.

The engineer will be exposed to multiple subjects within the mechanical engineering discipline such as: opto-mechanical design, thermal and structural analysis, mechanism design, printed wiring board design, material selection, metal fabrication techniques, support to build/integration, and environmental testing. These skills will be applied at all phases of the product life cycle, including requirements analysis, concept definition, detailed design, production, and test. The engineer will be expected to present their design solutions and analysis during internal and external design reviews, document the design through drawing generation and release, provide factory and supplier support, and support change incorporations.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field
- 4+ years of professional experience and a current career break of at least two years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge in mechanical design of electronics packaging.
