Laboratory Coordinator
The Laboratory Coordinator reports to a Laboratory Manager or Program Manage and is responsible for the transport, processing and shipment of specimens. The Laboratory Coordinator will be expected to perform accessioning, processing, and shipping duties in a service laboratory with minimal supervision according to approved Study Compliance Instructions (SCI). The Laboratory Coordinator will be required to assist in the multiple areas within SAC as needed.




Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follows Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Collects, processes, documents, stores and ships patient specimens according to Study Protocol.
  • Helps organize and maintain the SAC freezer inventory.
  • Is responsible for the shipment of batched samples for clinical trials.
  • Keeps track of due dates for batch shipment of specimens.
  • Performs internal transfers of specimens to labs within the Cancer Center.
  • Attends clinical trial start up meetings and provides input for clinical research staff in regards to sample procurement and shipment of processed samples.
  • Maintains samples processed in the appropriate database and barcodes all specimens processed.
  • Reviews new trials as necessary and helps create correlative worksheets.
  • Assists in training new laboratory personnel for sample processing and shipment.
  • Troubleshoots samples that come to lab with missing information.
  • Maintains equipment calibration binder and ensures that all centrifuges, freezers and pipettes are calibrated on schedule.
  • Must have proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
  • Prepares study sample collection kits, drop off kits at clinic of infusion center, maintains kit inventory and requests kit resupply through the sponsor's portal system.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager and Program Manager.




Decision Making
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Makes decisions and establishes work priorities on procedure-oriented operations.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent and some college course work in the Biological Sciences.
  • One year of related laboratory experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $16.75-$23.00 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
