Job Description

Excellent career opportunity in Las Vegas to join a stable, multinational commercial testing company with immediate plans to invest and grow. SGS North America, Inc. seeks a proven lab scientist and leader for major program to expand lab services - (instruments, methods, space, staff) for a 25-year-old existing, small lab in Las Vegas and to become a major services hub for the southwestern US.

Seeking the key technical and staff leader for managing a commercial testing lab in water, environmental, materials, soils, and food safety testing using SM, EPA, AOAC, CDC and ASTM methods. Job Responsibilities:

• Supervision of daily balance of work load and work force to meet all operational goals.
• Recruit, train, and retain staff members and build a team from 10 FTE's to 20 FTE's.
• Plan, procure, direct, and implement tactics to maintain existing equipment and infrastructure and to add more instruments and methods to expand capabilities - particularly, GC/ECD&MSD, LC/MS/MS, microwave prep, extractions, and other advanced automation/robotic projects.
• Improve systems for work order control, data management, report verifications and EDD/LIMS systems.
• Coordinate technical and business issues with sales, client services and lab team to deliver quality data, on time and on budget and seek opportunities for growth.
• Supervision of operations and maintenance of advanced analytical chemistry instruments - including hands-on troubleshooting as needed. Experience with GC/MSD, ECD, FID instruments, Ion chromatographs, ICP' and other sophisticated instruments, methods, and software. Hands on work and vendor management as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the sciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or directly related hard science and ten (10) years of direct (hands-on) analytical chemistry using sophisticated instruments. Preferably 5 years in laboratory leadership role - direct staff supervision, training, development. (Required) Master's degree in the sciences (Strongly Preferred).
• Proven management aptitude and leadership skills. Experience building and retaining teams. Experience in implementing capital expenditure programs and successful start-up of new instruments and new methods.
• Specific knowledge and experience in EPA test methods for organics, metals, inorganic parameters. Microbiological testing experience a benefit.
• Knowledge and experience in environmental regulations, Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) programs, lab practices, and accreditation programs.
