I Accountability Objectives:

Acts in leadership role to ensure completion of sterilization, processing of equipment and departmental goals. Provides general direction to department associates, assigning and coordinating specific work responsibilities in support of department policies and protocols.

II Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.

A. Education

  • High School graduate
  • Graduation from a Certified Sterile Processing Technician program or equivalent work experience
B. Licensure / Certification

Current certification as Certified Sterile Processing Technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSSPD) or in the process of getting certified within 6 months of the role.

C Special Skill / Aptitudes
  • Demonstrated clerical skills including keyboarding @ 25 words per minute. Data entry, report retrieval and filing skills.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and interpersonal customer relations skills with a diverse employee population and external customers.
  • Ability to facilitate good employee relations among staff utilizing a calm flexible approach in order to ensure productivity and customer service standards are met.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to make appropriate decisions with minimal direction/supervision. Ability to make multiple decisions in a busy work environment.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
D. Experience

Minimum five (5) years working experience in central sterile processing area OR Minimum two (2) years experience as a Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician.

Duties / Responsibilities:

1

Monitor the missing instrumentation location/trays and strive to complete sets and make recommendations to manager regarding replacement instrumentation from missing, broken, or need for multiples for efficiency.

Attends daily 7am OR report/huddle to receive important critical to the operation of the daily case load, also communicate to the OR associates at the time with any CSPD issues

Provides direction to support associates to ensure effective operation of department. Duties may include the coordination of the daily work assignments within the Central Supply department.

Provided direction to support associates to endure effective daily operations. Duties may include the coordination with the dally work assignments within CSPD and ,maintaining a daily staffing requirement..

Ensures appropriate staffing levels are maintained. Organizes and schedules work assignments to ensure case preparation is appropriate for current and future assignments.

Anticipates supply and instrumentation needs by coordinating and supervising material requirements for surgical case carts filling supply orders from preference sheets, finding special or missing items, sequencing supplies, and communicating with Sterile Processing to ensure supplies are in their appropriate location.

Follows through and resolves issues regarding problematic instrument trays/case carts.

Monitors and audits sterilization systems . Maintains appropriate sterilization records for sterilization systems.

Complies with and communicates approved policies and procedures to team and provides guidance accordingly. Recommends changes to policies and procedures to subordinates and ensures compliance. Recommends changes to policies and procedures and may participate in the development and implementation.

Provides input to manager and supervisor for associate selection, performance appraisals and associate discipline. Assists in educating the staff in job duties to ensure compliance with department standards.

Assists the manager in preparing the annual capital budget for Sterile Processing in identification of needs, research of prices and products and justification. Assists in monitor and cost containment activities to meet budget and mission requirements, such as bi-annual physical inventory and value analysis assignments.

Assist the manager in associate education and competencies

Be familiar with process improvement methodology- Lean. Be able to assist and mentor associates to follow JIS in all areas of the department. Be involved in assisting manager and or supervisor in JIS audits
