About the job:

Our Cytotechnologist screens all gynecology gical and non-gynecologic cytology. Refers all positive, questionable and high risk gynecologic slides and all non-gynecologic slides to the pathologist. Detects cell changes caused by different disease processes. Trained to recognize minute abnormalities in the color, size, and shape of cells. Performs laboratory analyses and assumes responsibility for problem solving and quality assurance.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with the Lab Assistants or Histotechs in accurately logging in all specimens and preparing of cell samples.
  • Performs screening and processing of pap smears with precision and accuracy in timely manner, recognizing any variance from normal and taking appropriate action where needed.
  • Assists Cytology Supervisor/Histology Manager with maintenance of policy and procedure manual.
  • Maintains a responsible attitude by demonstrating awareness of cost control, cooperating with others, and supporting hospital policy.
  • Performs quality assurance records and takes appropriate action, reporting any problems to the Cytology Supervisor/Histology manager.
  • Trains and mentors new cytotechnologists and staff in theory, techniques, and procedure.
  • Checks pending logs to assure timely processing of specimens..
  • Maintains accurate workload records on a daily basis.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree and completion of an approved Cytotechnologist program or equivalent.
  • Licensure / Certification: American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certified or eligible or certification from the International Academy of Cytology (IAC)
  • Experience: Cytotechnologist experience preferred but not required.
