The Lead Platform Systems Engineer will provideproject Engineering leadership for Thermo King products in the North America TransportRefrigeration and mobile HVAC portfolio. This individual will be the systemsengineering leader for new product development projects, responsible for insuringSystems Engineering principles, tools, processes, and technical rigor areapplied to develop solutions that satisfy product performance and safetyrequirements, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.


This role will provide multi-disciplinary engineering leadership development of Thermo King Transport refrigeration and mobile HVAC systems,including:

  • Requirements elicitation analysis
  • Requirements flow down and ownership
  • System architecture modular design
  • Concept development
  • Tradeoff analysis
  • Interdependency identification
  • Modeling and simulation
  • Controls algorithm development
  • Testing evaluation
  • System optimization
  • Reliability analysis
  • Risk management

The ideal candidate will leverage strong criticalthinking and communication with deep product/application knowledge - providingstrong ownership leadership for the technical developmentapproach. They will drive the best business solution based onrequirements, technical readiness, and trade-offs. They willdemonstrate a continuous pursuit for curiosity/learning, understanding, andimproving of the organization's capability. The candidate must work in physical, abstract, and conceptualdomains-balancing the big picture while objectively evaluating multiplescenarios/solutions due to the usual ambiguity of balancing future technologieswith practical limits. They will work to continuouslyidentify, communicate, and manage risks to ensure project/program success. Finally,they shall be a servant leader who actively listens and seeks input frommultiple sources/stakeholders.


The role will demonstrate cross-functional leadership becoming a Change Agentat multiple levels and between multiple teams:

  • Developing strong communication/alignment with internal and external suppliers
  • Driving project execution and achieve project milestones
  • Introduction of new technologies and processes
  • Managing large or complex projects
  • Building systems engineering capability culture

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or Software Engineering (or similar discipline) and at least 10 years work experience developing complex mechanical and/or electrical systems is required.
  • Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering is strongly preferred.

Essential Skills Knowledge:
  • Strong experience modeling and validating multi-disciplinary product systems required (integration of mechanics, hydraulics, electronics, power transmission, fluids, etc.).
  • Demonstrated technical leadership with systems-level engineering of complex mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) and design validation plan and report (DVPR).
  • Product architecture methods, functional analysis or product family design.
Supplemental Skills Knowledge:
  • Experience in control of refrigeration or HVAC systems.
  • Electrical hardware or power electronics experience.
  • Experience or certification in project management.
  • A demonstrated history of innovation, e.g. patent authorship.
  • Understanding of transportation, off-road agricultural, construction or HVAC equipment.
  • Experience with Six Sigma analysis and reporting tools: A3, 8D, Fishbone/5-whys etc.
