Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Environmental Studies program in the School of Public Service seeks a one-year, temporary Lecturer to teach in-person courses. This instructor would primarily teach the introductory core course, ENVSTD 121, which also serves as a general education course providing students with the foundations of natural science as relevant to Environmental Studies. For many students, this is the class that inspires them to become Environmental Studies majors or minors. The course uses a common textbook and activities have already been developed and taught across a team of five faculty members. While not required, the instructor would have the opportunity to develop place-based learning opportunities in a growing metropolitan area in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

You would be joining a dynamic, exciting program that has recently been redesigned to emphasize concrete examples and problem-based learning. As one of three interconnected interdisciplinary programs in the School of Public Service (along with Global Studies and Urban Studies and Community Development), we deliver innovative and place-based curriculum. Environmental Studies has over 200 majors and nearly 60 minors and a new certificate in Environmental Education. Our students come from all regions and backgrounds and leave prepared to see perspectives, evaluate change, conduct research, communicate effectively, and create networks, as well as to lead and follow.

Lecturers are non-tenure-track faculty whose primary responsibility is teaching non-clinical courses in degree and/or certificate programs for an academic year.

One (1) vacancy. Temporary lecturer, academic year 2021-2022.

Level Scope:

Non-tenure, may undertake teaching, research and administrative duties within a specialist subject area.

Essential Functions:

• 
  Lecturers are non-tenure-track faculty whose primary responsibility is teaching courses in degree and/or certificate programs for an academic year. This faculty member will teach a total of eight courses balanced over two semesters, fall and spring 2021-2022.
  
  • Teach 6 (total) in-person sections of Environmental Studies 121: Introduction to Environmental Studies over both Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Teach 2 additional courses, e.g. a School of Public Service core course, an Environmental Studies upper-division elective, or one section of University Foundations 100.
  • Design, develop, and deliver material using a range of methods and platforms.
  • Create course material, lesson plans, and curricula.
  • Contribute to program-level working groups and projects as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MA or MS in Environmental Studies or a related field (Environmental Studies/Science, Geography, Sociology, Biology, Political Science, Public Health, Philosophy, or Anthropology).
• Two years of in-person teaching experience, or equivalent professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or ABD status in Environmental Studies or a related field noted in the minimum qualifications.
• Evidence of teaching success, including teaching evaluation summaries and syllabi
