Summary
Performs installation, re-keying, preventative maintenance, and repairs to mechanical lock and key systems and
equipment on the University campus. Issues and receipts keys, audits and maintains keys and key inventory, and
maintains hard copy and electronic records. Ensures security of keys in the automated key cabinet systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Trades Maintenance Supervisor or the Technology Group Leader, the locksmith position
will perform duties to ensure the safe operation of the college.

The essential duties include but are not limited to the following as other duties may be assigned:

  • Install, service and repair various types of locks and security devices. Installs and repairs door hardware and hydraulic closing fixtures. Disassembles locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts. Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification.
  • Experience with creating and implementing a "Campus Wide Master Key" plan utilizing and key software management system such as Simple K.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and repair electric/electronic locks and offline security devices.
  • Familiar with automated key cabinet systems, preferably the TRAKA system. Under the direction of facilities management, he/she will be responsible for the oversight and distribution of the key management system across many locations on campus.
  • Work closely with the Communication Technician team and assist with any issues related to the physical infrastructure of the college's data network, telephone system, transition project of legacy phone systems to the VOIP system, security camera video recording systems.
  • Tracks inventory levels of supplies, including key blanks, lock sets, and other equipment, per the direction of the Group Leader.
Requirements
  • Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of recent three (3) to five (5) years of lock shop experience, including a proactive work history of maintenance work diagnosing, maintaining, renovating and preserving the facilities.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime and be available for non-shift and after hour calls.
  • Must possess certification as a Professional Locksmith.
This employee must have sound, independent judgment and skills with the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standard situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondences via email. Ability to speak and communicate English. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Work with other departments collectively such as Campus Police, Project Management, LTS and Residential Life. Communicate clearly and concisely and be able to relay instructions and directions to others. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and schematics, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to work with our work management system with experience with IPAD technology. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Operate assigned equipment and vehicle.

Experience that proves good judgement in making decisions, asking for assistance when needed, bringing forward problems and communicating with others, including management.
