What You Will Contribute:


The Badger Meter Internship Program provides hands-on, real-world experience to students through projects that make a difference! In addition to your projects, you will be given the opportunity to participate in our robust Intern program focused on Badger Meter Culture, professional development, and learning an exciting career in the trades! The goal of this program is to develop a high school student while they finish their diploma and then transition them to full time career in Maintenance after high school graduation.

Badger Meter is hiring an Maintenance Youth Apprentice Intern.

This position is responsible for the support of all departments (plant and administration) in the Milwaukee Facility. Works closely and under the guidance of Maintenance Technicians and supervision while performing assigned work on machines, equipment, buildings, and grounds. Includes both inside and outside work. This individual will grow and develop into learning the below job responsibilities. Looking for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, work that is varied, and is mechanically minded.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for observing safe work habits and maintaining cleanliness of work area.
  • Communicates with supervisor his/her daily activities, anomalies in work areas, and unsafe conditions
  • Operates hand trucks to transport materials, machine parts, scrap, refuse, recyclables, etc. on company premises.
  • Includes both inside and outside work involving lubrication, plumbing, painting, some carpentry, and shadowing limited sheet metal fabrication.
  • Performs assembly of items such as storage racks, carts, office/shop furniture, etc.
  • Performs sweeping, cleaning and general housekeeping duties in assigned plant areas.
  • Responsible for miscellaneous other assignments such as washing windows, walls, machines, maintain requisition supplies, changing light bulbs and shoveling snow, and grounds-keeping.
  • Uses hand tools and power tools to complete required tasks.
  • Utilize maintenance management software to get work assignments and record labor.
  • Shadow the repair and regularly scheduled maintenance of various machines, equipment and building infrastructure.
  • Works from machine design drawings, specifications, handbook formulas and equipment manuals.
  • Research and investigate repair parts and supplies utilizing internal documentation (paper and electronic) and internet sources as needed.

Education and Experience:
  • Pursing High school diploma (sophomores/juniors preferred)
  • No prior experience needed

Qualifications:
  • Basic to intermediate math comprehension (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, basic unit conversions)
  • Mechanical classes/experience or aptitude preferred

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment
  • Depending on the assigned department, must complete an audiogram test, physical, and 60lb lift exam
