Mammography Technologist

Shift:  Day

Schedule:  M-F 8am-5pm

Employment Status:  Full-Time (.75 or greater)

Hours per Pay Period:  0.01 = per diem (Non-Exempt)

Starting Wage DOE:  $24.28 - $29.87

The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic mammography procedures, transporting patients and providing clinical clerical support.

Essential Job Functions

*Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
*Maintains equipment by reporting malfunctions and assists in departmental supply acquisition. Mammography procedure responsibilities include operating mammography equipment.
*Performs quality mammography services at the request of physicians, according to guidelines established by the American Cancer Society, American College of Radiology, HCFA, OSHA and FDA.
*Prepares the mammography suite for the patient by assuring cleanliness and acceptability of appropriate areas and setting up the equipment for special cases. Positions the patient and thoroughly explains the procedure as well as alleviating apprehension and promoting cooperation as much as possible.
*Informs management or Lead Mammography Technologist of any unusual concerns, situation or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.
*Maintains adequate inventory of all required supplies by informing appropriate personnel for acquisition.
*Assures that the mammography program is in compliance with regulating agencies by completing appropriate clerical work needed to perform the exams.
*May assist with performing quality control tests for mammography equipment according to established guidelines by the American College of Radiology and FDA.
*Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
*Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
*Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

*Demonstrating empathy and sensitivity necessary to elicit patient/resident cooperation and allay apprehensions
*Incorporate population specific needs into all aspects of communication and patient care; scope of services provided may encompass age groups ranging from infant through geriatric, but will primarily encompass age groups for adults and geriatrics
*Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written
*Operate mammography equipment
*Monitor inventory usage
*Demonstrate new techniques
*Work with frequent interruptions, time deadlines, high volumes, and customer contact
*Be self motivated and work independently
*Maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of workload assignments
*Transport and/or lift patients and to be on your feet 90% of the work day
*React calmly and professionally in emergency or difficult situations
*Exposure to unpleasant odors from soiled linen or human waste and contact with patients exhibiting possible infectious diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory when working with ALL patients.
*Possibility of exposure to ionizing radiation, however, if adherence to safety and protections standards are followed, chance of accident is remote.
*Errors in conducting procedures and radiographs could result in poor quality test results which could negatively impact the quality of patient care

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Graduate of a recognized, approved American Medical Association Council of Education program in radiological technology

Experience

  • One year experience as Diagnostic Imaging Technologist

Certifications and Licenses

  • At hire -CPR Certification as a Healthcare Provider
  • At hire - Current Montana license as a Radiology Technologist
  • ARRT Mammography certification within 6 months of hire
