Primary Function of Position:

Reporting to the Endoluminal PMO Director, you will be accountable for coordinating the development of Systems and Software-related products for the Ion platform.  You will be aligning clinical and regulatory clearance schedules with product availability, ensuring that the right products are created and delivered at the time of market introduction to ensure the platform success.  Additionally, sustaining engineering projects focused on improving reliability, gross margins, and product performance will have to be balanced with efforts on new product development.  Your influence will be critical to ensure excellent cross-functional communication and coordination, and you will play a key role in the prioritization and development of new technologies for the platform.

The position requires significant experience in medical technology products and be able to combine that experience with a knowledge of bringing projects through a development cycle and delivering them on-time and on-budget.  The role requires an understanding of product development and manufacturing, project management, and most importantly managing through influence. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Hire and develop a small team of highly capable, professional project managers and project coordinators to meet the needs of the business unit. Organize and prioritize the work of the team to accomplish the objectives outlined below. Act as player-coach for staff. Develop their capabilities and provide professional development path. Periodically assess staff performance and provide feedback, both formal and informal.
  • Coordinate effectively with a number of other project managers who are driving overall product development programs, to understand project goals, scope, and timelines, and help functional managers negotiate resources and schedules.
  • Effectively manage cross-functional development teams across Systems, Software and Planning Station, providing oversight on critical projects, and ensuring the teams deliver against their commitments with the highest quality
  • Ensure Product teams channel the voice of the customer into product development, and that clear communications across interconnected products and projects drive on-time and on-budget development efforts
  • Ongoing collaboration with the cross-functional teams to update weekly / monthly / quarterly reports on project status and ensure that cross-product dependencies are understood, planned for, and crisply executed
  • Perform risk analysis, develop contingency plans, and gather data from functions to proactively raise prioritization and scheduling tradeoff decisions
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Develop new and improved work processes for the design team. Explore, champion, and build new processes that make the design group and other departments they interact with more effective and efficient, and result in better products faster.

 

Skill/Job Requirements:

  • Exceptional leadership skills with deep business acumen; proven ability to inspire, motivate and provide professional development to direct reports
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams: influencing, lobbying, and doing whatever it takes to move the project forward in order to meet deadlines, but in a manner which builds trust and is consistent with our culture
  • Ability and commitment to constantly develop new and better processes for product development. Passion for keeping abreast of and advancing the state of the art in program management, and for building that expertise within the company. An advocate and leader for program management at the company.
  • Demonstrated success in navigating complex business environments and driving efficient and effective direction
  • Experience and skills working on products with a very high level of complexity including capital equipment and consumables. Must be able to work on products involving many engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and software.
  • Proven success recognizing critical issues with the ability to react quickly under pressure, and drive issues to closure by providing coordinated direction.
  • Exceptional aptitude for cultivating collaboration across department boundaries and influence cross-functional teams without formal authority to ensure project success.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering projects on-time and on-budget
  • Capacity to understand all components of the Ion platform, their interactions, and the inherent tradeoffs therein
  • Ability to measure and analyze project and operational performance to use in driving improved product performance
  • Strong reporting, project management, analytical and prioritization skills; demonstrated change management success
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a desire and ability to understand complex medical systems
  • Minimum 5+ years product development experience in the medical device industry
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree is required; Advanced degree in an applicable field is a plus
