Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Manufacturing Engineer develops, optimizes and documents non-coating manufacturing processes of thin-film optics. The incumbent will support coating preparation, shaping, bonding and spectral testing of optics.

You Will Have the Opportunity to:

  • Evaluate and optimize manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Use 3D design software to make tooling and fixtures for the optical manufacturing process.
  • Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
  • Ensure all necessary process documentation (PPAP, FMEA, control plans) exists and reside in ERP.
  • Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Work with Safety to provide safe process and working conditions. Evaluate equipment and processes to identify ways to optimize performance or to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Requirements:
  • Must have Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science discipline. Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as an engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints and drawings.
  • Hands-on machine shop equipment experience (i.e. milling machines, grinders, lathes).
  • Optics and optical systems background preferred.
  • Material Science or Chemistry knowledge preferred.


The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S.

Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

Since Materion Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings is a Department of Defense cleared facility, the candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. Citizen, a U.S. National, or a Lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S.
