Purpose and Scope:

Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. Drives product and process changes to reduce cost, inventory, and improve quality and delivery by using statistical methods and sound manufacturing principles. Acts as a subject matter expert in manufacturing tools and methods. Champions capital projects and insourcing initiatives. Implements Lean and Six Sigma strategies in support of continuous improvement culture to increase productivity.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Model safe behavior at all times
  • Support manufacturing with all required technical needs. Determine materials required to manufacture, special processes, labor hours required to complete each operation of work order and determine inspection points and scope.
  • The Manufacturing Engineer will optimize and document all aspects of manufacturing processes by working on the floor with machinists/technicians, identifying improvement opportunities, and applying simpler, faster, cost effective and reliable methods.
  • Evaluate new and existing processes to ensure quality and safety of the job
  • Create and maintain detailed manufacturing and process instructions for complex parts as well as modifications to existing products.
  • Champion the use of Process Controls to measure capability, reduce variability, and overall improve the quality of the product.
  • Drive and support Lean Manufacturing techniques in the shop including process mapping, cellular manufacturing, set-up time reduction, and overall waste reduction
  • Effectively use process improvement strategies and techniques including Lean and Six Sigma to minimize waste and reduce variation.
  • Review designs for completeness and ease of manufacture
  • Coordinate and implement capital improvement projects
  • Perform engineering analyses and apply problem-solving methods to support new product development and sustaining production. Perform root cause and corrective action on parts and processes that are not in control.
  • Identify new equipment, tools, work-holding and processes to improve process capability, and cycle times.
  • Design tooling & work-holding to improve processes.
  • Participate in concurrent engineering to ensure new and legacy designs are able to be manufactured and that optimum processes equipment and tools are employed.
  • Must be able and willing to work extra time as necessary to ensure completion of assigned tasks

Required Skills, Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field and 3 years’ experience as a manufacturing engineer, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related technical field and minimum 5 years’ experience as a manufacturing engineer OR
  • Associate 2 year degree in Engineering or related technical field plus 10 years of manufacturing engineering related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of manufacturing engineering related experience
  • Knowledge of materials, composites, heat treat & coatings
  • Advanced ability to prepare procedures, reports and presentations
  • Knowledge of GD&T, schematics and relevant test and inspection equipment
  • Training or certification in Six Sigma and Lean Principles
  • Attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this position
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Aerospace and defense machining and manufacturing requirements, to include tight tolerances
