Position Overview

The Manufacturing Unit Manager manages the operational, technical and administrative activities of all manufacturing units within the plant in order to meet the agreed production targets within planned level of cost, quality, and product delivery in accordance with safety, health and environment policy.

The Manufacturing Unit Manager maximizes value for the business by implementing established strategies and guidelines, proposing investments, allocating resources, ensuring updated technology, and excellence in manufacturing practices.

The Manufacturing Unit Manager also represents the company and its values in its relationships with customers, suppliers, commercial, workforce and other professional bodies.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Plans and directs required work activities and resources necessary to carry out all manufacturing unit processes in accordance with standing Environmental Health and Safety Training (EHS) practice to meet safety targets.

• Sponsors behaviors based on safety, maintaining manufacturing unit safety.

• Ensures EHS trainings to employees.

•Ensures compliance with Novelis Environmental, Health and Safety procedures/guidelines and ISO.

Plans and directs required work activities and resources necessary to carry out all manufacturing unit processes in accordance with quality, cost, and process capability specifications.

• Reviews of KPIs and ensure cascade and alignment.

• Ensures product meets quality standards.

• Root cause analysis and corrective action as required to minimize or eliminate defects.

• Improves efficiency to increase production and reduce costs.

Protects company assets.

• Direct maintenance and reliability programs; ensure achievement of preventive maintenance targets in manufacturing unit.

Manages inventory, staffing, and work assignment to maximize resources.

• Trains and develops employees.

• Prepares staffing plans.

• Undertakes activities to reduce and maintain inventory at minimal levels.

Proposes budget, approves expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources, ensuring that all materials, labor and equipment are deployed efficiently and effectively to meet customer demand.

• Budgets proposal creation, review and management.

• Develops cost reduction plans & initiatives to achieve ROCE targets.

• Ensures product delivery on time and within quality specifications.

Ensures manufacturing excellence and drive continuous improvement activities within Manufacturing Unit (MU).

•Ensures continuous improvement methodology, through the execution of projects and lean initiatives.

• Sponsors most important Black Belt projects within MU

Manage capability, performance, and engagement of manufacturing unit employees.

• Oversees effective talent management practices which ensure proper staffing, training, performance management and individual development.

• Oversees activities which enhance employee engagement.

• Prepares succession plans for key roles.
Location Profile

Established in 1991 the Davenport Casting facility employs more than 200 people and serves the building and construction industry. The site produces hot rolled coil by utilizing specialized blending melting and continuous casting processes to produce high-quality aluminum sheet from predominantly recycled materials. Davenport Casting has an active social responsibility committee that supports many organizations in the local community including Habitat for Humanity Riverbend Food Bank CASI and more. The facility also sponsors local events including their partnership with Junior Achievement in sponsoring and presenting at the Advanced Manufacturing Career Day.
