General Description
We are seeking a mid to Marine Engineer to support our USCG Ship Design Team.

Location: Hybrid remote schedule, must be able to work onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC, at least 2 days per week

Schedule: We can offer a 9/80 schedule for this position

General Duties

  • Works independently, or on project teams
  • Able to manage schedule and technical product development for small, focused tasks
  • Able to supervise small numbers of junior staff on projects or teams
  • Perform calculations applying mechanical engineering principles, techniques, procedures and criteria
  • Prepare quality assurance reviews of simple analyses or other engineering documentation
  • Develop test procedures to ensure equipment and system performance
  • Interfaces with client peer level
  • Performs quality assurance reviews of simple analyses, calculations and drawings developed by junior staff
  • Perform engineering and sizing of auxiliary machinery piping systems for early ship concept design phases
  • Interfaces with client at peer level
  • Direct interface with design leads
Minimum Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship and must be eligible to be granted a security clearance if required.
  • BS in Engineering, Naval Architecture, or an equivalent Engineering Discipline
  • 4-8 years of marine engineering experience on Naval and/or Commercial shipping vessels
  • Knowledge and experience with auxiliary systems (i.e., pumping and distribution systems for fluid systems, seawater, fresh water, fuel) and equipment (refrigeration units, pumps, motors, A/C units).
  • Knowledge and experience with HVAC System design and performing heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Knowledge and experience with ship integration of these systems as well as environmental qualification to ensure appropriate ship integration is a key capability.
  • Knowledge and experience with developing ship design specifications and familiarity with ship design classifications (ABS).

Security Requirements
Applicant will be subject to a security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. In addition to the security clearance, this position may require an additional background screening for base access.
