NASCAR is seeking a talented professional to join our team as a Mechanic at our Conover, NC Transportation Center.

SUMMARY
Provide mechanic services for motor carrier equipment used to transport property in interstate commerce. Specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; performing repairs and preventive maintenance; providing information for the proper use of equipment; and ensuring that tools and materials are available in the shop.

On occasion, drives transport hauler, sets up units at racetrack when needed.

Completes and maintains all DOT and company requirements and related paperwork accurately and in a timely manner when driving hauler.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending repair resolutions.
  • Diagnoses transport hauler malfunctions for the purpose of determining needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.
  • Inspects transport haulers (e.g. brake system, oil levels, coolant, tire pressure, wiper blades, fan belts, exterior and interior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring each vehicle is in a safe operation condition.
  • Installs hauler components, parts, and accessories (e.g. glass, cameras, brakes, starters, engines, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that transport haulers can operate in a safe manner.
  • Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability of tools, equipment and safety within the work space.
  • Performs minor body work for the purpose of maintaining the appearance and safe operation of the transport haulers.
  • Performs routine vehicle maintenance program (e.g. oil change, brake check, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining transport haulers in a safe operating condition and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair and maintenance logs, parts lists, warranty claims, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Repairs vehicle systems and components, etc. (e.g. diesel/gasoline engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, exhaust systems, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of transport haulers in a safe operating condition.
  • Responds to local road calls regarding disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of over the road vehicles.
  • Drive transport hauler(s) on an interstate basis and meet company guidelines including but not limited to; the guideline that transport haulers must travel a minimum of pairs. Any exception to the established guidelines must be approved by the Director of Transportation in advance.
  • Complete and maintain all Department of Transportation requirements necessary to operate transporter (i.e. Commercial Drivers License, Testing, and DOT Physical).
  • Set-up units at racetrack. This includes all mechanical hook-ups, space organization and details.

Percent of travel required: 25%, including weekends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Must live within a reasonable driving distance from the Conover, NC Transportation Center.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or equivalent and five (5) years of mechanical repair experience and five years of experience CDL driving related experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, create and maintain required reports and all related correspondence. Driver must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic skills on Company provided hardware and software.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Commercial drivers license (CDL Class A) and NASCAR License.
