Mechanical Engineer Job Responsibilities and Duties

• As an Entry/Mid-Level Mechanical/Industrial Engineer, you'll work directly with experienced engineers and project managers, playing a crucial role in the design, development and implementation of production systems, processes, machines, and equipment.
• Assisting in designing, developing, testing, and manufacturing mechanical devices, including tools, fixtures, and machine components to drive OEE improvements
• Troubleshooting and proactively identifying problems, as well as developing and implementing solutions
• Demonstrate proficiency at reading and understanding mechanical drawings
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams for coordinating project activities and resolving problems
• Preparing, presenting, and explaining proposals, reports, and findings to the team or project managers
• Define performance metrics
• Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
• Prepare project estimates, budgets, and timelines
• Organize and provide training for new equipment and/or processes
• Researching and analyzing the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems
• Contributing to the evaluation of a product's overall performance, reliability and consistency, including participation in quality assurance processes that ensure the design and finished product adhere to specifications
• Travel to customer facilities, vendor facilities, and other Silgan locations to support and drive improvements

Mechanical Engineer Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field: Manufacturing and/or Process Improvement preferred
• 2 to 5 years of work experience or internships in a related field
• Proficient in 2D and 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing tools (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc...)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong math skills
• Ability to determine internal customer needs to develop project specifications and scope
• Ability to interpret and implement specifications based on customer needs
• Ability to design mechanical components, devices, and systems for manufacture and implementation
• Familiarity with mechanical manufacturing equipment and processes
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing practices
