MMA is seeking a Media Relations Manager to lead the advancement of our brand and reputation as an industry thought leader and top workplace. An average day includes collaborating with a team of media relations colleagues and national and regional marketing/communication professionals on incoming media requests and thought leadership strategies, while cultivating key media relationships. The Media Relations Manager should have a passion for driving creative and proactive PR strategies.

Position Summary

The Media Relations Manager will report to Marsh's US Media Relations Director, working closely with MMA's Senior Vice President of Brand and Corporate Communications. They will create and execute media strategy and manage media activity across multiple industries and practices in the US and Canada

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold the reputation of the firm by proactively seeking and vetting positive media coverage and defusing negative coverage as part of Marsh's wider Global Media Relations team.
  • Act as a strategic media advisor to internal stakeholders.
  • Create and execute media strategies that effectively promote content, brand, and thought leadership aligned to business objectives.
  • Proactively pitch stories and develop relationships with reporters at key vertical trades and Tier 1 outlets.
  • Write, edit, and distribute press releases.
  • Research, present and manage insurance industry award nominations.
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders including national and regional leadership, marketing, design, social media, internal communications, legal, compliance, and investor relations.
  • Vet external speaking engagement opportunities.
  • Prepare external talking points and key messages.
  • Respond quickly to in-bound press requests.
  • Prepare targeted media distribution lists.
  • Ensure all media efforts across MMA comply with corporate policies, procedures, and process.
  • Train and assist regional communicators with managing and vetting local media opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a national subject matter expert database.
  • Monitor and manage monthly reporting of media activity.

Qualifications
  • At least 5 years' experience working with the press, including Tier 1, preferably in the B2B professional/financial services space.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational and project management skills - must be able to juggle a number of projects simultaneously with great attention to detail.
  • Confidence to work with the company's senior leadership.
  • Experience working with third-party PR agencies.
  • Ability to demonstrate creative problem solving.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to navigate and thrive within a heavily matrixed environment.
  • Well organized, strong attention to detail, and self-motivated.
  • Strong, independent worker but also a collegial team player.

Work Environment
  • This position requires an environment conducive to driving team audio/visual meetings on a regular basis.
  • Position may require periods of travel as needed, up to 10%.
  • Flexible location within reasonable proximity to an MMA office
  • Extended work hours required on occasion.
