Description

Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to fill the part-time role of Medical Assistant Instructor on the Walla Walla Campus.

This (MA) Medical Assistant Adjunct Instructor position reports to the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health and will be responsible for both classroom, lab and clinical instruction/supervision of selected courses of the MA program, In the faculty role, the relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning. Responsibilities include preparing teaching materials, teaching assigned classes, assessing learning, assigning grades and maintaining records. The instructor is expected to teach according to the approved syllabi. This position may be required to teach a mix of online classes as well as in-person at the Walla Walla Community College campus. This position works from Winter Quarter through Summer Quarter. Courses may be taught in the evening and instructor may be required to teach during those times.

The MA Adjunct Instructor collaborates the MA program coordinator in complying with requirements related to program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development in accordance with Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) national accreditation standards.

Teaching and Related Responsibilities


  • Provide high quality instruction in assigned classes that is consistent with the MAERB Core Curriculum and college curriculum standards.
  • Foster a positive, caring, and equitable learning environment where diversity is respected, and advanced.
  • Assess student mastery of course and learning outcomes.
  • Integrate current computer technology in the classroom; offer instruction in multiple teaching formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online courses) as appropriate.
  • Plan course instruction based on approved Master Course Outlines/Syllabi to ensure course content and objectives are met.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching techniques to accommodate the learning styles of a diverse student population, including new technologies enabling distance learning.
  • Supervise clinical experience for students.
  • Evaluate student's performance on a systematic basis, ensuring competency-based goals are met.
  • Prepare and maintain student records related to learning activities.
  • Maintain availability to assist students with learning difficulties.
  • Participate in Professional Development activities that foster growth in best practices for teaching/learning and practice standards in industry.

  • Required Qualifications:

  • Credential in good standing as a certified medical assistant, by an organization whose credentialing current through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); Clinical Medical Assistant Certification Examination through the National Health Career Association (NHA); National Certified Medical Assistant Examination through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification Examination through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education or similar experience teaching adults
  • Current and competent in the MAERB Core Curriculum objectives included in the assigned teaching
  • Experience in teaching MA courses in multiple format (face-to-face, hybrid, and online)
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Instruction in educational theory and technique
  • Must be able to travel regionally.
  • Associates Degree or higher


  • Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a part-time instruction assignment contingent on enrollment and located at the Walla Walla Campus. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful employment to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and provide transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Candidate may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition for consideration of employment. The college is a tobacco free institution. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.


    Compensation

    Compensation for adjunct instruction is contingent on enrollment and paid in accordance with the contract between the WWCC Board of Trustees and the WWCC Association for Higher Education. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with the educational background and experience per the Faculty Negotiated Agreement (Download PDF reader). Refer to Appendix D for the part-time salary schedule.
