Basic Job Functions:
The role of the Melt Shop Metallurgist incorporates but is not limited to process/product metallurgy which includes product improvement, problem-solving projects throughout the facility, the operation and maintenance of analytical equipment such as; optical emission spectrometers, SEM, carbon/sulfur/nitrogen analyzers, slag analyzers, mechanical testing machines, and metallographic equipment. Develop and optimize operating procedures, minimize variability in the steelmaking process, develop grades for specialized applications, provide training to teammates, provide metallurgical assistance to technical service representatives and customers, and continuously improving the quality management system. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
